Some thoughts on today's game and the future

Recommended Posts

First and foremost, this obviously was expected today. The Patriots are who they are and they simply don't lose games in December whether it's a game at home or on the road, bottom feeder or contender. They would have likely done the same to another division leader or contender today like them today because it's simply how they roll.

- With that said, you do have to wonder if the outcome might be different had we scored a TD on what up until the TT turnover was an impressive drive. Not going to heap on Taylor because most expected him to play his usual game and he did. But it sucks his Bills career (likely) ended in the way it did. Either way it's obviously not meant to be here and he'll certainly get a chance to compete for a starting job elsewhere next year.

- Peterman time again, made some nice throws today and should have had at least a few more completions if not for drops. Overall nothing overly impressive other than looking like a real NFL QB when he throws the ball. But will be interesting to see what he does next week against the Colts at home. Most probably had next week as the game he would officially get his first start anyway but looking forward to seeing him in the final 4 games of the season and still think we should double down on QB's even if he lights it up. Even if he's flat out terrible though can't imagine we'll see Taylor on the field again this year.

- Eric Lee, if this wasn't some sort of fluky type of performance that seems to happen with no name guys against the Bills you have to start to immediately question how this coach and GM let this guy go. Because with this defense as bad as it's been in recent weeks no way this guy didn't deserve a roster spot. But if he's some hidden gem it will prove to be a massive failure of talent evaluation.

- Gronk dirty play, was completely uncalled for and you hope White is ok. But you do have to wonder if that was payback for him running his mouth. Hoodie is always watching and will certainly sweep the leg when he gets a chance. Either way Gronk better be suspended. Fitting the Bills were basically screwed anyways having to start 1st and 25 because of the Hughes penalty.

- Playoffs, hopefully nobody is still expecting this  regardless of the 'in the hunt' graphics but if they are everything that needed to happen for the Bills to still have a chance didn't today which is pretty typical this time of year. I didn't think the Ravens were that good but they are if their offense has all of a sudden come alive they will be very dangerous team with that defense. Going to also suck seeing both St. Doug and Mularkey take their teams to the playoffs too especially since they were the last HC's to lead the Bills to winning records. Still very possible Anthony Lynn and the Chargers go to the playoffs too which adds more salt in the wound since there are still folks out there that felt we should have kept him as the head coach. Either way if the Bills finish 9-7 it's not going to be good enough this year. Even 10 - 6 they probably lose out on tiebreakers.

Regardless enjoy the last 4 games of the season and the holidays with your families. There's a lot more to appreciate in life than a pathetic football team that's going to be sitting home for the 18th straight year when the playoffs start. The full cycle of a baby becoming an adult, graduating high school, old enough to smoke, drive and heading to college.

A much needed post on a board gone insane - great write up, thanks!

Really, this is precisely the time of year when one switches from long-shot wild card calculations to figuring out draft scenarios.  It's going to end up a typical 7-9 type mediocre finish.  At least the Chiefs are swooning.  Now go up and get a real qb for goodness sake.

How many draft picks would you trade for the next Jim Kelly. Answer ALL of them. The Bills fans waited long enough.

I have been torn on this insofar as we have so many glaring holes, I have wanted to both trade up for qb and keep enough in reserve to substantially improve elsewhere.  I hope we don't have to choose, but if it takes a boatload to get the qb, get the qb.

This is the dilemma though...if the next Jim Kelly is in next year's draft why would a team that also needs a QB let us have him?

Everybody seems to think we can just throw around tons of draft picks and move up to get who we want but most teams out there aren't going to make the mistake of hoarding draft picks and trading with us. Especially an equally desperate team like the Browns who have hoarding draft picks recently and are still the worst team in the league.

This is why I fear we have 6 wins too many this year even if we don't win another team and truly try to tank the rest of the way.

There are teams, Bears and 49ers who will dance with you. Pay them, stop making excuses and get a Franchise QB.
