So far, to me, it has been not retaining Schwartz as the head coach when Marrone tucked tail and scurried back to whatever hole he crawled out of. The Ryan regime was a disaster and has really brought us to the point we're at today.

Between the Sabres and the Bills, Pegulaville is quickly becoming loserville.  I love the Pegula's but as far as success on the field and the ice, they have been complete failures.  I would love to say it's just bad luck but the guy got enamored with Lafontaine over dinner and handed him the keys to the kingdom.

Agree. 100 agree. Then did it again with Whaley who wanted Lynn to be HC. Whaley did horrible at draft but not selecting his coach screwed everything up. Pegula loved Ryan and McDermott.

All this makes me kind of wished Bill Poilian when we had a chance when they wanted him.

I tried to start a thread on this earlier today but the mod's decided there wasn't enough kool aid drinking so they locked it.

Pegula sucks as an owner.  The teams were "saved" but will be perpetual losers.

There probably won't be internet forums 30 years from now, but whatever medium we'll be using to discuss the Bills, the conversations will be the same when his son inherits the teams.

I am not persuaded that Schwartz would have made a great HC.  Consider please that other teams seeking HC are likewise underimpressed by him.

The scuttlebutt, though, was that Whaley wanted Hue Jackson and Hue was already pitching to Schwartz the benefits of staying on as DC to increase his future HC charisma.

I think that could have worked.

Rumor had it Whaley wanted someone other than McD as HC this time.  I don't remember who, anyone else?

Agreed in the extent Schwartz needed to stay just not sure the capacity He still is a DC so wasn't like you couldn't have brought in a HC who wouldve kept him and the scheme. I think in 2014 Whaley won the power battle otherwise Marrone stays with Schwartz and Polian is GM. That really defined the direction to where we are now. Then the owner got excited because the defense was good and rushed to get a guy like Rex who had hype and considerable success on D in the past.

What has me so down is both teams are so downtrodden and laughable. I can't remember a time in my life where neither team offered much hope on the horizon and seasons felt so over so early on.

I remember him wanting Hue and I don't think that would've been a terrible combo. I think Pegula wanted Beane all along and McDermott was obviously going to be his guy, judging from all the other Panthers here now. They just did it backwards because of the draft.

Pegulas are too close to the teams. They need to back off and hire professionals. God bless them but they are clueless. And why wouldn't they be? He made billions drilling holes. Nobody expects him to know about how to run a pro sports franchise

Forget Schwartz, it was not keeping St. Doug who I always felt was going to be the next Bill Parcells type of coach and he's well on his way to turning around another pathetic NFL franchise in his first season as HC in Jax.

Biggest problem with the Pegulas is they seem to be easily manipulated by the used car salesman types, whether Russ Brandon (who miraculously not only kept his gig with the Bills but had it expanded to the Sabres as well), Rex Ryan and now McD/Beane.

Not getting McVay and settling for McClueless.

Do you think McVay would have came to Buffalo though?

I'm guessing L.A was an attractive job for him because of having the first pick off the board in Goff to work with

Schwartz took a middle of the road team with a good QB to the playoffs after being 1-15 a couple years prior. More than that, you could've at least retained what made the team good. Guys knew him, they liked playing for him. In that moment we were much closer to being successful than we are now.

Pegula's hand picked Rex Ryan and McD. And let both of them do whatever they please including Rex bringing in his worthless brother to run the defense and McD dumping Whaley for his buddy in Carolina.

Let's not forget about Rex staying the night down at the Pegula's house in Florida to 'seal the deal' so to speak.

And just recently you can find a picture of Pegula and McD walking hand in hand boarding the team plane the other day for San Diego.

Whether or not Pegulas are meddlesome they certainly have no clue what they doing and should have hired a true professional to make the these decisions with the Bills and Sabres instead of the likes of Russ Brandon, who by the way is still pulling the strings behind the scenes because he's another Pegula favorite apparently.

This board is about as crazy as its ever been; try to grasp that the Buffalo Bills Organization, over a 17/17 year period developed a lousy organization with a losing culture, now we demand the playoffs in McBeane's first year. Anyone who thought this team was even close to a playoff contender is seriously misguided, even with Dareus, Watkins and the rest of the mediocre over rated guys that we have discarded. Sorry, this is a process - check out previous rebuild jobs!
