Meanwhile, other teams continue to eat our lunch and laugh at us in the process (no pun intended). This is like when Donahoe arrived. Cleaned out cap. Went after a QB the next year. They need to draft one, maybe both. Go after Cousins and also draft one high. You can plan to get a franchise QB, but it's easier said then done.

That doesn’t feel like the place you start your rebuild. You start by moving on from guys like Kyle, Wood and Lorax that are in their 30’s, highly compensated and a shell of their former selves. 5

So we should draft a QB in the 1st round and pay Kirk Cousins over $100M???

That’s not the way that the real world works. It’s pretty clear that these guys are drafting a guy. They like “their” guys and will want one of them.

Maybe a 2nd rounder is more likely, but it's been done before.

While I do agree to a point. I was shouting before the season for a complete tear-down.... but you have to think they wanted to employ those 3 guys you listed to rub off on the team and help instill a culture of dedication/professionalism.... and hand it down to the young guys. At least 2 of the 3 guys you listed who were shipped out work against that culture. Not sure about Darby. Watkins was going to be a battle and it was likely the only way to retain him would be a malcontent franchise tag.
White Linen Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 The first part of the process is try your best to be reasonable as a fan - stop thinking 5-2 and a 3 game slide hides the fact the coach came in after most of the draft prep was done and our GM was hired after. Like it or not, it's just too early to know what the team will look like at the time appropriate for them to be judged.
frostbitmic Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 Trust the process = another ticket selling slogan from our team President. This year was just the beginning of the tear down, next year it begins in earnest.

A part of building a culture though is getting buy-in and growing it. A lot of guys that were tough in different locker rooms matured in a strong locker room. The Patriots have a bunch of examples like that. You should have made an effort to bring along the talented guys instead of replacing them so early in “the process.” 1 minute ago, frostbitmic said: Trust the process = another ticket selling slogan from our team President. That's happened. Doing it both in the same year, not that I recall. Bears signed Glennon to $15 million a year but that's much less. It's a different time with rookie contracts being low. You couldn't do it in the past. Edited November 20, 2017 by TheTruthHurts

This is the perplexing part to me! I might even add Incognito to that list. I have always felt that in a rebuild, and it is one, you don't want the process to include becoming one of the oldest teams in the league. The best thing about a young player is the hope he can improve and be a quality player (Milano). McBeane and the crew seem to latch on players like Humber who have been deemed non quality starters by the rest of the league. They do this I believe because these guys like Ramon will buy into anything to start. Perhaps you can find success occasionally in a case or two (Alexander last year). But, a steady diet of this recipe is not going to work. It is a path to mediocrity at best, what we see now at worst. Talent matters.

Cousins isn’t that guy.... and after his time in washington he might Be might be rather upset. unfortunately, Tyrod is the free agent of the upcoming offseason that you do this with. Much like it was fitz when we took EJ

mjt328 Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 "The Process" isn't about winning now vs. winning later. It's about getting rid of players that don't fit McDermott's scheme (Darby, Ragland, Taylor), don't fit his character/team-first attitude (Dareus) or simply don't make financial sense with the salary cap (Watkins). Our front office has always been looking to the future of the roster... but they also believed they could win in 2017.
