Marv's Neighbor Posted November 19, 2017 Posted November 19, 2017 Judging by the stands, loss of sponsors and TV viewership, the NFL needs a lot of help. If Peterman could be a component of that, I'm all for it. Replacing the Commish would be a big shot in the arm too!
bigduke6 Posted November 19, 2017 Posted November 19, 2017 exciting NFL QB play has been in decline for years, mainly due to gimmicky collegiate offenses. true pocket passers who have all the tools, and can read the field rarely exist in college anymore. spread offenses, air raid, etc, ruins young QBs. when college coaches develop QBs that can do the things an NFL QB needs to learn in college, then NFL QB play will improve, and the league will flourish again. wouldnt hold my breath tho. college coaches arent interested in developing QBs for the NFL, theyre interested in wins. gimmicky offenses are far easier to teach than a true pro style offense.

There are a lot of good young QBs. Wentz, Goff, Watson, Dak and those are the guys just from the last two draft classes. Considering we are only 19 months removed from the 2016 draft that's a pretty good number of guys. Throw in Mariotta and you have a group of guys who have dramatically changed the quality of their respective teams. All of the teams that drafted these players are headed towards the playoffs except Houston and that's because of an injury to Watson. That's a very quick turnaround for teams that all drafted near the top of the draft. Wait until the rest of the rookies from the most recent class get some seasoning and we'll really see what the last draft class has to offer. You have to go all the way back to 2014 to find a guy (Bortles) at the top of the draft who has actually busted and hell, even his team is going to the playoffs. I don't remember the last time so many highly drafted QBs have been selected without a bust. You did have a period there from 2012-2014 that didn't produce that many guys which helps account for the lack of overall quality play but considering how the last three drafts have turned out I'd say it's heading back in the right direction.

That's also from just the past 3 years and you're confusing "elite" with "franchise guys". Those guys are all franchise guys who will be leading their teams for years to come. You're also discounting that the guys we've listed aren't fully developed yet. The league is littered with a history of great QBs who didn't look fantastic in the first couple of years. You're trying to compare guys who haven't even had two years in the league to guys who are going to be in the HoF, that's not a fair comparison. The fact that you considered Goff a "bust" until 9 games ago illustrates the point. He wasn't a bust, he was just a young QB and those guys struggle.

Also it puts us right back into the playoff discussion and a possible dark horse team if this offense starts moving the ball with NP and scoring points.
