Jobot Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 How bold of a play would it be to build a team with two completely different offenses that could change on any given play? Tyrod - Offense 1 Peterman - Offense 2 Declare whoever the hell you want as your 'starter'... then show up to the game with the opposite guy at the helm! The saints obviously had a 'tyrod' specific game plan... so when Pocket-Peterman came in, he felt nice and comfortable! So many times when a backup qb comes into a game (at least a veteran backup), they play pretty darn well in the game, but the next week struggle as the opponent has time to game-plan for their specific style. This may only be able to work once or twice, but it would be pretty cool to see a playoff game vs the Pats team who prepared for Offense 1 or 2 to swap it out on the first play of the game! 1
reginald Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 Yes. Tyrod as a "Slash" style dude! McDermott "the master of deception."
BringMetheHeadofLeonLett Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 Fun thought. Landry tried it in the 70's with Craig Morton and Roger Staubach. Of course, those were both SB level QB's, as they ended up playing against each other in SB XII.

As long as you spot opposing team 40 points any backup QB will feel nice and comfortable unless someone needs a number of sacks for bonus.
K D Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 They won't do it because it might hurt someone's feelings. Wahhhhh
ProcessTheTrust Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 The alternating QB thing is a bit much but getting Tyrod on the field a couple times a game for some old school "slash" plays SHOULD happen. Doubt it will but man, that guy is so elusive on the run, it's worth experimenting with.

quinnearlysghost88 Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 My biggest fear is that they try to turn to the run to mitigate the amount Peterman throws. Let. Him. Throw.
Haslett_Stomp Posted November 16, 2017 Posted November 16, 2017 Do you live in Colorado or another state where "the kind" is legal?

The Frankish Reich Posted November 16, 2017 Posted November 16, 2017 Actually, an excellent idea. It's Brad Smith if Brad Smith could throw (a little). But QBs are such divas it's unlikely that you'd get buy-in from a Tyrod type. So coaches are scared to try it. Risk aversion, thy name is NFL head coach.
WhoTom Posted November 16, 2017 Posted November 16, 2017 QBs like to get into a rhythm. Constantly swapping back and forth doesn't facilitate that.

Not swapping back and forth... One week Tyrod plays 90 to even 100%, the next it's Peterman that gets 90-100%.... some games maybe a 70/30... 50/50 split? You play against 16 different defenses in the regular season, I would gauge there's a best way to skin each of these cats... PLUS - the other team doesn't know what they're going to face each week so they don't know what to prepare for!
WhoTom Posted November 16, 2017 Posted November 16, 2017 Even from week to week there's a certain rhythm. And whoever gets the start for the upcoming game would have to practice all week, so the team knows who the starter will be. Somehow, that information will leak. It also depends on a team having two competent starting QBs. Many teams can't even find one. And this plan doesn't mask a QBs weaknesses. At some point in every game, you need your QB to be a pocket passer, regardless of whether he's mobile. Likewise, your QB needs some mobility, unless you have an o-line that gives incredible protection.

That would be something! But there would constantly be changing pieces... when you had success with that, some team would take a QB from you... clearly you couldn’t pay both of them.... I see what you mean by having QBs withskills that contrast each other
Bleeding Bills Blue Posted November 16, 2017 Posted November 16, 2017 I did like watching that kid from Miami taking the direct-snaps. Kept the defense on their heels. Tyrod would have to be able to play running back or WR though... needs to be on the field to catch them off guard.
