By “always” do you mean the year and 2 games he was with the Bills? Before Buffalo he had never been in charge of the pass game. A career run-game coordinator.

He's currently coaching the tight ends in Baltimore...and I was referring to his time in SF with Kaepernick, quite obviously. Where are you guys getting the idea that as an offensive coordinator he doesn't have anything to do with the passing attack?

Something has changed drastically over the last two weeks schematically with opposing defenses.  The inability of Tyrod to read and beat the opposing defenses led to this decision.  An important point is the lack of complimentary football we’ve been playing.  We are not good enough to win without it.  I agree with the decision and believe it gives us the best chance to win.  Looking forward to some scheme changes on D as well against A Lynn and the Chargers.

Both teams were focused on forcing Taylor into staying in the pocket.  Some plays, like when taylor ran right up the middle against the saints, were probably broken plays but for the most part they just focused on containing him in the pocket and then letting him try to find a receiver.

There have been teams saying this in post game interviews that they are trying to "force Taylor to be a QB".  It's not hard to think that most teams don't respect his ability as a pocket QB based on their comments.

Am I reading this wrong or does Peterman become the 15th starting QB during the drought?

Well, any number it is............................. you can look right here and see why there is a playoff drought.

Let's hope Peterman is the last starting QB for the next 10+ years. Lord knows we can use the break about us fans worrying about the QB position.

More then likely they thought Peterman wasn't ready and they thought they could get Taylor to be something he wasn't.  This is still a scary proposition throwing a rookie against a defense that is second in sacks.

Another ballsy call by McD.  It worked fairly well with the trades before the season and I was doubting of those moves.  I'm going to wait to reserve judgement on this one.

Taylor is the best quarterback we have had in a long time  but, I do see how Taylor is the square peg in the round hole with this offense and Denison has failed to use Taylor appropriately and Peterman may be a better fit for what they are trying to do.

Good post!

I am really holding judgement about ALL the ballsy and bizarre moves Bill shave done with players.
and then The How they are playing football these days.

All 3 Teams seem to be a bit off last couple weeks.
Watching for the season end to define my opinions.

....I just want to see Peterman blow past the 300 yd mark so we can read all of the posts about how great the receiving corp was, win or lose.......the same "worst in the NFL misfits"......exposing the "Bi-Polar Gang" is well worth the extra popcorn.....I'm armed and ready................

As OC he was responsible for implementing both the passing and rushing play designs into a cohesive offensive strategy, which I thought he did admirably for what he was working with. I don't know exactly what you mean by 'didn't design the pass offense'.

He ran the running game. do not recall at the moment who ran the passing game, but they were designated assignments. It was  common knowledge at one point

I can do nothing but wish him well. I think Peterman has some real potential. cool cat so far..
But I am a CoT card carrying member.

I see much more wrong here than QB.

Lets us pray.

Not to be argumentative, but is that tweet the entirety of what you're basing the notion that Roman 'didn't design the passing offense' on?

No, not nearly the entirety. At Stanford he designed the run offense and Harbaugh designed the pass offense. In SF those responsibilities stayed the same. In Buffalo he deferred the pass game design to the QB & WR coaches. Now in Baltimore his is the run game coordinator. The man has never designed his own pass offense because he isn't good at it. His knowledge base is complex run blocking schemes, and he's a master in that area.

OK. I'd heard he was hands-off with the passing game in Buffalo but I never knew he had basically nothing to do with it...I won't credit him with the 2015 pass efficiency then, I guess it was Lal and whoever the QB coach was? Still maintain that overall he took that offense about as far as it could possibly go.

I'd argue Lynn took it farther, but that's because he simplified the preparation prior to the game and was willing to run the same play twice if it worked. Nevertheless, my opinion on Roman is mastermind run game, questionable approach to prep, and a poor grasp of passing concepts.
