RVJ Posted March 6, 2005 Posted March 6, 2005 Why would the Vikings trade both first round picks to get in the top of the draft. Then select a RB. When they could just give up a second to take Henry. Ted Cottrell must not be a big Travis Henry fan or he only has a say in the defensive side of the ball......ala Cowart , Fat Pat and Winfield. Vikings could trade up for RB The Vikings admit they will fib if necessary to conceal their plans for the NFL draft, which still is nearly seven weeks away. But already there is speculation they might trade up to choose a running back they can rely on. Team officials say it's not inconceivable. That probably would require that the Vikings combine their Nos. 7 and 18 overall selections to move up to No. 2 or No. 3. The Miami Dolphins own the No. 2 pick, the Cleveland Browns No. 3. Expected to be available at No. 2 is running back Cedric Benson of Texas. Auburn running backs Carnell Williams and Ronnie Brown are expected to be available within the top eight picks. Dennis Green's Arizona Cardinals hold the No. 8 pick. • There has been talk that Green might try to trade with the Vikings for oft-injured Michael Bennett, whom he coached at Minnesota. Bennett said he hasn't heard those rumors. "Are you sure they're just rumors?" a curious Bennett asked. "We'll see." Meanwhile, former Vikings running back Larry Ned, after being acquired by Green's Cardinals the other day, was arrested at a Phoenix airport for allegedly stealing a passenger's laptop computer, according to the Arizona Republic. Police found Ned hiding in a bathroom. The Cardinals released him later in the day. • Some people believe the Vikings' best chance to move up in the draft would be with the Chicago Bears, who have the No. 4 pick. With that pick, the Vikings could choose Braylon Edwards, the Michigan wide receiver, to replace Randy Moss. • The Tampa Buccaneers have made several inquiries about kicker Jay Feely, the Atlanta Falcons free agent who attended elementary school in Rosemount. The Falcons want to re-sign Feely, grandson of former College of St. Thomas basketball coach Tom Feely. Jay Feely would love to kick for the Vikings, who need a kicker but haven't expressed interest. http://www.duluthsuperior.com/mld/duluthsu...ll/11061954.htm
