The Fire Bell In The Night

Last nights primaries went well for Democrats. There was a fear that in California the strange system would lock the out because so many Democrats were running which could have allowed only two Republicans on in the general election. That didn't happen. One of our very best states will be sending a swarm on new Dems to Washington! Ya.

In New Jersey the fear was the Progressives would win and hurt chances in a general election, but it was moderates that won and should clear the way for about four more House seats from that states, if all goes well.

Dems flipped a state legislative seat, as the great Jennifer Rubin explains:

Quote

To top it off, another state legislative seat flipped from R to D, the 42nd this election cycle, thanks to Democrat Lauren Arthur’s win in the Kansas City suburbs. The Post reported that “Arthur defeated Republican Kevin Corlew — a fellow state legislator — by 19 points. That represented a sizable swing toward Democrats in the 17th district, which backed both Donald Trump and Mitt Romney by 4 points. . . . . While Republicans have flipped several seats in more conservative areas, Democrats have seen a surge in suburban districts. Last month, they gained a historically Republican district in Pennsylvania’s Bucks County while Republicans flipped a Democratic seat in a rural district south of Pittsburgh.”

Muddled results...............

Biggest primary night of 2018 yet offers clues, questions ahead of midterms
ABC News, by John Verhovek, Shushannan Walshe*

Original Article

Some 85 congressional districts, five governorships and five U.S. Senate seats are up this cycle in the eight states that held primaries Tuesday in what was arguably the most consequential night of the 2018 election cycle thus far.

Several high-profile races in California have still not been projected by the Associated Press, and both parties may have to wait days to see which candidates advance to November in several U.S. House districts expected to be competitive in November.

{snip}

The race also encountered some unexpected drama on Tuesday, with the news that over 100,000 voters in Los Angeles County had their names left off of rosters at various polling stations, much to the frustration of Democratic gubernatorial candidate Antonio Villaraigosa, the former mayor of Los Angeles, who called on the secretary of state to keep voting booths through Friday.

Of the seven districts in California that Hillary Clinton won in the 2016 election, just one has a projected Democratic winner as of 2 a.m. EST

These tallies are *not* final, but right now here's the cumulative Dem/GOP % for the 7 battleground CA districts (held by R's now/won by Clinton in '16):

Dude not cool.  If you tip them off now it will ruin the comedic meltdowns on November 7th

Blue Wave!  Blue Tsunami!  #Resist

The Province of Ontario votes today, in all likelihood kicking out the 15-year run of the Liberal Party.  They run a bit to the left of moderate Dems, in US terms.

The polls show a split between a true socialist party and the Progressive Conservative tory thingy.  The PCs would be moderate GOPs.

the cities will go socialist and the rest of Ontario will probably go PC.
