It's much more like the 1983 Bills. 1st year head coach (Stephenson)  with an aging roster, veteran qb (Fergy)  and dynamic rb (Cribs).  Start 5-2, then blown out by divisional opponent.  Next week they came home and beat the Saints to move to 6-3.  Then went on to lose 5 of 7 and finish up at 8-8.

By sheer coincidence , the Saints game that you mentioned was my first Bills game that I ever attended. The Bills fended off a 4th q drive by the Saints and won it.  It was mindblowing being a 15 year old and experiencing tail gating and the crowd energy.  Fond memories of my late father and a busload of his fellow engineers drinking themselves silly and then demanding that the charter bus driver pull over at the side of the QEW near Fort Erie for a "piss break!!".

As for your point, I hope its not the 83 Bills team as they faded badly. I think this Bills squad is better coached (Stephenson was a mediocre replacement for Knox) but the injuries this year may tell the tale.
