Carolina : The running backs gained 14 yards total, at 0.93 yards a carry

New York : The running backs gained 28 yards total, at 1.75 yards a carry.

How do you think most NFL quarterbacks fare faced with a situation like that? Alright, let's try looking at it from another angle :

New York - Week 1 : The running backs gain 154 yards at 4.47 yards a carry. Taylor throws for 224 yards, runs for 38 yards.

New York - Week 9 : The running backs gain 28 yards at 1.75 yards a carry. Taylor throws for 285 yards, runs for 35 yards.

You look at that and your reaction is to blame Taylor ?!? The same teams. The same lines, offense & defense. The same QB and RBs.......

The reason we cant get the run game going is because those teams put enough players at the line of scrimmage to take the run away. They were willing to allow 1 on 1 on the outside and very little players in coverage because they know the QB WONT hurt them. It is day 1 stuff. The defenses that make Tyrod try and beat them, shut us down. Teams like the Raiders or Bucs dont have the ability to stop the run. So even if they tried it didnt matter. The Jets learned from week 1 and were not going to let Shady beat them again.

Tyrod had one of best games statistically against the Jets. A couple of fumbles by 2 receivers certainly had a negative impact. It would be one thing to hang this on Taylor if he had a bad game, but he didn't. Pretty much everyone else on the offense did. But you seem to have missed that. Leaving Taylor out of the equation- how did the offense perform?

Why didn't this work for Denver?

Hard for the QB to hurt them when your coordinator is more concerned with establishing the run when it's been extremely clear it's not working.

The offensive line sucked, but Dennison was just as bad. Throw the freaking ball.

Ya agree. I think playing against great front 7 shot gun helps and esp a QB like Tyrod and move pocket and him if have to with pressure. Plus McCoy would have much easier time in space. play action and under center we are very weak at esp right side of line does not play to Tyrod strength. Helps mask little of his weakness..

The natural tendency of this coaching staff is to be conservative and minimize mistakes.  That's difficult in a hostile environment where the other team is,  more often than not, pinning back its ears and blitzing more than THEY would typically do on the road.

Throw in the under-performing O-line and WR corps and that's a tough roe to hoe for this roster.

Still, The lack of screens, swing passes or any plays designed to exploit the agressive pass rush the Jets threw at them was maddening.   Throwing away first down by repeatedly running vanilla running plays for no yardage was not a good game plan...
