This weekend, four clubs who missed the postseason in 2016 – the BALTIMORE RAVENS, BUFFALO BILLS, LOS ANGELES CHARGERS and TENNESSEE TITANS – are vying for the final two playoff spots in the AFC. In total, eight teams will clinch a playoff spot after not qualifying for the postseason in 2016, tied with the 2003 season for the most such teams since 1990.

A lot of people are crapping on the Peterman game for potentially costing us a playoff position, but I don't think it matters THAT much. Replace any other of our losses with a W and we would be facing a win and in game, or at least a loss with help and in. Yeah, in hindsight playing TT could have given us that W, but that is no guarantee, and we just the same should have beaten the Bengals, Panthers, Jets, etc...

You're ruining a perfect Bills fan narrative ... "lazy big, fat, black pot head don't wanna play here, dagummit."

But ultimately the “”Bills fan narrative” doesn’t matter.

The coaching staff and front office didn’t think enough of him to warrant the contract, so they moved him. Whether it was because of his lack of effort, issues with character or just a general lack of production, we will never know. What we do know is they thought they were better off with the draft pick than the player.

Insult the coaching staff/front office if you don’t like the move because the fans had nothing to do with it.

I wasn't criticizing the move.

Barnwell's alternate NFL reality: How the 2017 season could have been different

What if Jimmy Garoppolo had been traded before the season? What if Jay Cutler had stayed in broadcasting and Miami got desperate? Time to use your imagination in our bizarro timeline of the season.

An alternate universe in the AFC

buf.png?w=110&h=110&transparent=true lac.png?w=110&h=110&transparent=trueThe Bills decide against benching Tyrod Taylor in Los Angeles.

Fifth-round pick Nathan Peterman isn't quite prepared to start. Taylor delivers a workmanlike performance, avoids giveaways and contributes to a heavy dose of the ground game against a run defense that would eventually rank 27th by DVOA. The Bills don't do anything rash like turn the ball over five times in a half, which gives their defense some breathing room and keeps them out of short fields. A late Philip Rivers interception sets up Stephen Hauschka for a field goal, and the Bills come away with an upset win in Los Angeles.

When Buffalo follows that up with a win over the slumping Chiefs the following week, the Bills suddenly look like playoff contenders. The win over the Chargers eventually pushes Buffalo into a laborious tiebreaker process with the Ravens, with the two teams tied on both conference record and record in common games. The Bills prevail with a superior strength of victory, locking it up with a win over Miami in Week 17 for their first playoff berth since the Music City Miracle.

Only tt's most adoring fan club members think the bills had a shot at beating the chargers with him that day.

Did you see him benny hill ing around in the backfield for losses sunday?

that's what would have been happening to him at the chargers game.

In an alternate universe Tyrod Taylor would've blown out the Bengals who gave up 3 turnovers and a short field on a punt.

Or at least would've drove down the field for the game winning touchdown instead of throwing the vaunted "INT" with 3 minutes left in the game.

But yeah, all Peterman's fault we are where we are. An awful Bengals team turns over the ball nearly just as much and we get 16 points total. Chargers got what 54?

Do you remember who else was on offense for us that game? I can't wait to find a QB who will move our offense with Nick O'Leary, Zay Jones (before he remembered how to catch), Brandon Tate, Kaelin Clay, and Logan Thomas. As soon as Charles Clay got hurt that day I looked at the rest of the people at my table and said we wouldn't score again.
