This is where I am at too.

Insane to get rid of that caliber of player for a 6th round pick. Bills traded a proven starter who has had Probowl years for essentially a joke. Simply not enough.

That is not how you build a team and invest in your future.

If Dareus wasn't playing up to his potential, at least part of that blame has to be on the coaches. It's not like Dareus is horrible. He would start for every single NFL team there is right now. Every single one. How in the world is that only worth a 6th round pick?

Another mistake by Beane in my opinion.

If the Bills pass rush and run defense gets worse now - expect the blame to fall where it is due - squarely on Beane.

Bull. Three different coaching regimes so far in his career and he had issues with each one. It's him. It's not coaching.

Contract plays a huge role. Not many teams would pay for that contract, so no he wouldn't be a starter on every single team. In fact, the league has spoken on that fact considering he has been on the block all season long and at the last minute we get an offer for a 6th round pick. A player is worth what the league deems they are worth, not what the fans think a player is worth.

True to a point. But other coaches got a lot more out of him. Part of that is the coach's fault. You can argue against it, but you would be wrong based on logic alone.

And I don't like the guy personally either. Glad he's gone.

But that doesn't justify a bad business decision. And that is what this is by the looks of it.

Beane likes to drive luxury cars for a couple years and then just dump them at the junkyard once he is tired of them I guess - rather than actually selling them for their market value.

Talent wise alone he starts for every team in the NFL right now except maybe one or two at the most. Can't dispute his talent level.

@RapSheet

The #Bills had tried for months to trade DT Marcel Dareus. Finally get it done in exchange for a #JaguarsNFL_2017_JAXJaguars_v2.png 6th rounder in 2018.

Exactly how does everyone see this as some great victory?

I know it saves salary cap space, but this is an epic fail!

The number 3 overall pick in 2011 and the Bills get a 6th round pick. The top six picks in the 2011 draft were Cam Newton, Von Miller, Marcel Dareus, A.J. Green, Patrick Peterson and Julio Jones.

The Panthers got a franchise QB, Broncos got an all-time great linebacker pass rusher, The Bengals and Falcons got elite WR's and the Cardinals got an elite CB. The Bills got virtually nothing!!!!

The Doug Whaley era was a monumental failure and now the purge has continued under the new regime. This is not a great deal. It is an admission of another major failure.

Talent is only talent when you want to use it. And the business decision that's bad is signing the big deal and then not living up to it.

I would argue Schwartz was the only coach to get anything out of him. That was before Dareus got paid and had motivation. When you give a problem player 60 million dollars in guaranteed money you take away his motivation. Especially one that doesn't seem to care about football, his coaches, or the players around him. Dareus got what he wanted... paid and then gave up.

Talent wise alone he would start for the majority of teams... IF he had the desire or motivation to use said talent. I wont argue his ability. He has ability. He just lacks desire to use it. He got what he wanted. He is set for life. The problem with your argument is that contract is part of it. You cant just ignore it and say he is worth more than we got. We got what we got because that is what he was worth.

To be fair, we got some stellar play for stretches and I think this front office wouldve considered dealing von Miller Id handed the broncos roster at times (hes been a handful too)

Better to admit the failures and move on. Whaley did not do this hence he is no longer in Buffalo.

How long are you going to live in the past?

Onward and upward my friend

We didn't pay a guy $100 million to be a damn anchor.

I agree with this

There are people that are upset that we lose Marcel and his "anchor" ability from this DL.......

You don't pay a guy 100 million dollars to do that....there is no shortage in the league of guys that can do that job. You pay a DT 100 million dollars because they have the ability to take on double teams.....still win....and put pressure on the passer.

Guys....marcel was not doing that.....I have said it before.....Worthy provides you the exact same production that Marcel was giving us.

I honestly wish it wasn't true....i really expected a Marcel resurgence this year with the change in scheme......it just didn't happen.
