Kirby Jackson
This is false. Watch the All-22. Tyrod pumpers can't make a case for him without disparaging his teammates. It's unfortunate. I watch them every week.

Wayne Arnold
The 8+ in the box stat in McCoy is true. Nextgenstats.nfl.com. look it up. It rose to 32.85% after yesterday. Going into yesterday it was around 29% or it may have been two weeks ago that I looked. Using that stat seems very misleading to me. First of all, many who are high on that list are short-yardage / goalline specialists. For example, Mike Gillislee is #3 in that category among RB's. That makes absolutely no sense considering who his QB is, unless you consider that Gillislee has received many (maybe even most) of his reps either on 2nd/3rd and short or in the red zone. Meanwhile, who has been the Bills' running back on the goal line this season? It's been mostly Tubby Tolbert. Despite that, Shady is 7th in the league in facing 8-man fronts among RB's with at least 100 rush attempts. Did anyone else notice the trick Wayne plays here? He takes yesterday's passing number - 165yds - and tries to pass it off as Taylor's season average. If he had a stronger case, I'd bet such tactics wouldn't be necessary...... Not a trick. Follow along with the conversation. Context, my friend. Wayne plays the devils advocate more often than not. Sometimes I think he just does it for fun. Sure, now which measurable standards would you prefer to use? The average rank of at least five categories: DYAR, passer rating, passing yards per game, adjusted net yards per pass attempt, and sack percentage. And maybe QBR. IDBillzFan
Taylor is currently 29th in the league in passing yards per game. Only five quarterbacks who have started a game this season averages less than 165 yards per game: Deshone Kizer (rookie), CJ Beathard (rookie), Joe Flacco, Kevin Hogan and Mitch Trubisky (rookie). As I'm reading through this thread, I can't help but feel like maybe you're just having fun playing devil's advocate. By the end of last season, I was convinced Taylor was useless. I kept hearing the same things over and over: can't throw over the middle of the field, can't throw receivers open, can't feel pressure, can't throw for 300 yards, and the more I watched, the more that became evident. But if you are unable to see considerable improvement in pretty much all aspects of his game this year, and see a quarterback who can get this team to the playoffs, then I have to assume you just don't want to see it. And who says the turnovers won't continue to come? Who says the defensive effort will dry up? Are you paying attention? Elston with a pick? Who the hell is Elston? We have an Italian with two turnovers in the last two games. Freaking Hauschka forced a turnover, for crying out loud. HAUSCHKA! For the first time in years, I can look at the schedule and NOT find you a 100% guaranteed loss. Not any more. Not at this moment. We finally have a team that doesn't beat itself, and a quarterback able to play within himself, and it boggles my mind that anyone would think this is anything other than a genuine team. I get it. Predicting failure is easy. Odds say Taylor will never win a SB. But this is the closest we've been in years, so maybe try enjoying it.

I look at the %. Going into the game he faced an 8+ man front 29% of the time. Doesn't seem like a lot to me. Kind of like people saying Dareus was always double teamed. I actually looked and he was double in the Tampa game 12 out of 41 snaps. That's not a lot.

Ill trade you DYAR for DVOA, add in INT%, and instead of passing yards make it total yards. Hows that Mr. Advocate
grb
Not a trick. Follow along with the conversation. Context, my friend. Wayne Arnold's post, in it's entirety : Taylor is currently 29th in the league in passing yards per game. Only five quarterbacks who have started a game this season averages less than 165 yards per game: Deshone Kizer (rookie), CJ Beathard (rookie), Joe Flacco, Kevin Hogan and Mitch Trubisky (rookie). You start off by mentioning Taylor's season average in yards per game. Then you switch to his yardage in yesterday's game to compare to other quarterback's - yep - season average per game. Mind you, as sleight-of-hand goes it was very cleverly done. But if Taylor is as gawd-awful as you claim, why bother with such tricks? Scott7975
You know where Wilson ranked at yards/game the year Seattle won the SuperBowl? 32nd with 209. You know what they lead the league in? Turnover differential with +20. You know where Wilson ranked at yards/game the next year when Seattle went back to the Superbowl? 27th with 203. You know where they ranked in turnover differential? 4th with +10. 2 shy of 2nd place. You know who was in second place? New England. You know what Seattle hasn't done since Wilson started getting high passing yards per game? They haven't won a divisional playoff game. Actually I am implying that wins are a team stat, but Taylor has actually been part of our wins this year even if people don't want to believe it. We are winning as a team, but still our offense is playing a role in the win even if defense is the biggest reason. We could easily have Fitz back there turning the ball over and losing. We could easily have EJ back there throwing to the hospitality tent. Its not like Taylor has a star studded cast around him. Its not like Taylor is Brady either. Taylor is a good QB though and has come through this year when we needed him to in more games then he has not. Yards be damned he more often than not is making plays when the team has needed him to make plays. Edited October 30, 2017 by Scott7975

section122
Standard: Making progressions at an average NFL starter level speed, little-to-no hesitancy in delivering a consistently accurate ball to receivers that are not necessarily wide open, and the ability to consistently win games when asked to throw for the average number of pass attempts per game (36 pass attempts in 2016). Now list me the qbs who do this in your mind please? I'm bored with make believe hoops that TT has to jump through. Tell me what qbs in the league reach your standard. Does anyone care anymore about Tyrod haters? Sad some of you cant even enjoy this season. lol. Yup. Either you don't like him because your ignorant of what SHOULD be expected by watching other teams or because of the reasons he alluded to a few weeks back. Don't have to love him. Yet. Just can't keep hating him as he just goes out and plays solidly at the position week after week. You know where Wilson ranked at yards/game the year Seattle won the SuperBowl? 32nd with 209. You know what they lead the league in? Turnover differential with +20. You know where Wilson ranked at yards/game the next year when Seattle went back to the Superbowl? 27th with 203. Context matters when discussing Tyrod and what other qbs in the league do yet is ignored many times. Wilson and Tyrod have very similar starts to their careers minus the team success. Alex Smith and Tyrod have very similar numbers AFTER Smith turned into a productive qb (6th or 7th year). Before anyone argues go look at the numbers. transplantbillsfan
I call it as I see it. I'm not going to apologize for that. So many other players deserve so much more praise for their performances yesterday that contributed to the win but won't because they're not the quarterback. Taylor made a few good throws/decisions yesterday and I said as much in the Shoutbox as it happened. But the bottom line is that we need to see more of that if we're going to truly compete for the playoffs/championships. We're not going to face bottom five defenses every week going forward, nor will we be able to force four turnovers every game. Taylor won't be able to hold the ball all day against better defenses. And when he does throw has to be more consistently accurate. Regardless, hope you're ready to get your avatar changed to some big ole Tyrod lovin image

starrymessenger
Do you mean to throw into double coverage more, throw to a receiver that's not open? I'd prefer he not. Exactly. Because he has never shown to be a good enuf passer to be able to do that with any consistency. So for now you have to assume that if he tried he could well turn into a turnover machine. Seems to be the opinion of our coaches/ coordinator as well. But he is not nearly as bad as his most determined critics would say. And I think I see some improvement in his play this year. Used to be that he was more one read and run. Now I think I see him keeping his head up a lot and scanning the field for receiving options when out of the pocket. That adds a dimension to his play imo. In the past I dont think he got much help from his receivers when plays broke down and maybe that has improved a bit as well. Our WR corps is much maligned and lacks a legitimate vertical threat (I dont know whether journeyman Thompson can be that guy) but Matthews, Jones and Holmes are pretty big targets and are not without skill. There is room for improvement in the passing game and who knows we may yet see it. If we do our chances of seeing the playoffs will be much better.
