Draft/Acquire Short Offensive Linemen: Tyrod will flourish

Recommended Posts

Shorter arm length means you can get inside the DT easier.

Didnt think of that but yes. Low man wins and inside position wins. I fought a kid in fourth grade. He was shorter than me but had these Lincoln Log arms (thick and stout). Got my ass kicked even though I had 5 inches on him. He had inside position and could control my movement. Seriously, McDermott is thinking the same thing. Bye bye 6ft 6 Cordy!

In a boxing match, you would have had the advantage.

I dont know man. I am pretty neutral with Tyrod, don't love him or don't hate him. But I personally think this is a bit of reach.

Not going to attack your idea as you are thinking outside the box, but I really don't think tall o line man is the reason why Tyrod is inconsistent

Did he get your lunch money? All I needed in 4th grade was an ice cream sandwich and a milk. About 14 cents got it done. It wasn't until 6th-7th grade that I had it in with a certain.... never mind. But it was clear in the principal's office that I was the only new guy. That kid shouldn't have fought so much if he wasn't any tougher...

Heres your stats:

Tyrod is 6ft ( not 6ft 1 inch as he claims)

Our O linemen are:

Seantrel 6ft 7

Cordy 6ft 6

Dawkins 6ft 6

Wood 6ft 4

Ducasse 6ft 6

So Tyrods Height to O Line Ratio is -4 inches on average.

Look at the winning teams this year and over the last five years. The standard QB to o-line ratio is -1 to zero. (The higher the QB height to oline ratio the better).

That being said, our oline is wayyyy too tall for our QB.

Whats the answer? Draft and acquire shorter and squattier olineman. Ideally we need olineman 5ft8inches to 5ft10inches at 320-330 pounds.

Heres why:

1) Shorter O Lineman, then Tyrod can see better. Same with TEs. Shorter the better.

2) Before anyone says shorter guys arent able to manage an o line, think of this: back in 1976, the Dolphins had a shorter oline and dominated.

3) You ever hear the expression low man wins???? Well, lets put our money where our mouth is and get a head start. Low man (shorter man) is already 40% of the way there...and if the lower/shorter/squattier man wins, I see no downside.

So Im pretty sure the shorter the olineman, the better. Flame away if you want but the stats speak for themselves.

I think this is reasonable. Shouldn't take us more than four or five years to bring in four competent to excellent OLs who fit the bill.

Who needs five, Sign this guy and he can do double duty....

I live in Japan and am actually a sumo fan.

Who did the not-real-convincing trick photography on that? The real sumo guys look big enough.

Maybe they could bring in Mainoumi.

You have to read all my comments. Shorter, stouter is best for visual optics and QB/OL height ratio but have to have the arm length too. 5ft 9 to 5ft10 with 43 inch arms would be ideal. Think Tolbert with Seantrels arms and thats what we need to take the next step.

You're making more and more sense here. Do you have a fan club I could join?

How tall is EJ compared to the raiders oline?

I believe EJ has a -1 QB/OL height ratio which is ok. At least he can see down the field. Tyrod has a -5 ratio and that has to change ASAP. Hence McDermotts idea that we ship Cordy Glenn out in exchange for two 5ft10 guards and move Ritchie to the blind side tackle.

Doug Flutie would like a word with you.

You are trying to compare apples and carrots...they dont go together. QB play in 2017-2020 requires quick slant passes with stout o lineman who are road graders. Ive never seen a roadgrader tower over the QB. Shorter, squattier o lineman with some junk in the trunk and 44 inch arms will be the new prototype o lineman and Id prefer we stay ahead of the curve on this as opposed to being a follower and trying to find this prototype after they are all snatched up.
