Brandon Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 That's an excellent signing. Holcomb is the guy I wanted them to sign to backup Losman. He's good enough to be a short term starter, yet he doesn't have the ego that a longtime starter might and shouldn't be a lockerroom problem.
Coach Tuesday Posted March 5, 2005 Author Posted March 5, 2005 Are you joking? 263332 Nope. http://www.buffalobills.com/
BillsGuyInMalta Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 I'm shocked...I was expecting a backup like Shane Matthews, not an actually starting QB.
BillsGuyInMalta Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 Well so much for ESPN's report that we only had 600,000 bucks to play with.
ajzepp Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 Nope. http://www.buffalobills.com/ 263336 It may not seem like it, but that's a huge signing
BF_in_Indiana Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 It's a good signing and goes along with what I said the other day about what I expected the Bills to do in FA. They will fill some minor spots and hopefully replace Jonas. We won't sign a big free agent this year, but the ones we sign will help our depth.
BillsGuyInMalta Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 Best possible backup available. Hands down. 263343 Definitely. I didnt even consider him because I assumed he'd go to a team with a chance to start. If we get that Shelton trade now, our offseason is pretty damn good.
LabattBlue Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 WOW....I didn't expect backup QB to be the priority signing. I know Holcomb has had some big games in the past and am surprised he is willing to come here where he will be a #2 from the get go.
Bear Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 Best possible backup available. Hands down. 263343 I agree. I'm really surprised by this...and I love it! I think Holcomb could be a starter under the right circumstances. 1 need down.

Mark VI Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 Well, I just posted my lack of understanding for a QB who can't move well but he's an experienced backup. Seems the Bills would have to change the playbook for him. If that's what the Bills want, I'm behind them and certainly trust the judgement of Clements,Wyche and Mularkey. He has tons of experience. Another need filled.

Alaska Darin Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 Why would we have to change the playbook for him? The only things he can't do are the QB draws and designed roll outs. 263356 He can roll out. He's just not much of a threat to run.
BF_in_Indiana Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 He can roll out. He's just not much of a threat to run. 263358 Well I guess that's what I'm trying to say, what would we really have to change?

The playbook will be the same one we ran with Bledsoe (they'll simply add plays to take advantage of JP's mobility); unlike Bledsoe, Holcomb won't be afraid to throw short- and intermediate- routes.
ajzepp Posted March 5, 2005 Posted March 5, 2005 Well I guess that's what I'm trying to say, what would we really have to change? 263366 All that will change is the expectations for our new numero dos.......Holcomb can flat out play.......I love our QB situation now. Kudos to ol' whitey
