Gugny Posted September 2, 2022 Posted September 2, 2022 When dining out, why do we ask for the check, when it's actually a bill? Quote

Quick Google search leads me to believe it's because you are "checking" that your order is correct before paying, which at that point it becomes a bill. Quote

Just Jack Posted September 5, 2022 Posted September 5, 2022 Why do bands still do encores? Is it really any surprise that peoples cheers and screaming makes them think backstage, “hey guys! Let’s go back out and play a few more songs! Our fans really would like it.” 1 Quote

When I was about seven, my mom decided that summer vacations on the beach of the Baltic or North Sea were too boring; instead, we were going to the Alps for 3-4 weeks. Every other day or so we would go hiking. On the days in-between, the main attraction was the local public swimming pool in Serfaus/Austria. That was in the 1960s, and the pool was fed by mountain creeks and not heated except by the sun during the day. Often, until late afternoon my sister and I were the only ones daring to go into the pool. Our main game (and the reason I am telling the story in this context) was to save insects from drowning. We would carefully carry them to the pool side and let them dry in the sun. We would rescue them regardless of species. There were many grasshoppers, but also bumble-bees and wasps. 2 Quote
Just Jack Posted September 10, 2022 Posted September 10, 2022 (edited) Can you imagine if the Vince Lombardi trophy was like a Championship belt in wrestling or boxing, and it gets passed on to the team that beat the champs? The Bills would be NFL Champions today after beating the Rams last night. Edited September 10, 2022 by Just Jack Quote

You've got yourself a disputed champion at the end of the year. Quote

I started working it out, going back to when GB won the first SB, but even in that next season, I was up to 5 title changes before the end of the season. Maybe one of these days I will work it out, but it's going to take a while, to track which team has won how many championships. Quote

I was on a college hockey board for years and this was something they would do every year. It was fun to track. Hockey's a bit more volatile obviously, so a bunch of crazy things always wound up happening. Quote
ExiledInIllinois Posted September 17, 2022 Posted September 17, 2022 Speaking of that^^^^the Bills sports logos are the only sports logos to show genitalia. Standing Bison vs. The more family friendly Streaking Bison. Sabres always had their act cleaned up: And the baseball team wears their pants: 1 Quote

And 6 months later, somewhere in America, I got stung by that very wasp. Now I know who to blame. 1 Quote
