Not sure if he was supposedly clean, or not, but he looks hammered in this video; not sick.

I get this email blast or whatever from some guy in the music industry my friend (who is in the industry) turned me onto a few weeks ago. He said, totally substantiated and knowing the family will be pissed, but he thinks it's drug related.

I have the feeling he was back on opiates. He seemed really out of it when I saw him 3-4 years ago.

He also had a hip problem that might have been why he would have gone on them.

That would be sad, but not shocking, if it's the case.

He didn't look, act or sound right in this video.

it would seem easy to blame drugs given his past history. but I don't believe it was the case and didn't even before I found this article today. he was obviously in rough shape and likely combined with age, hard life and a tour that looked to take everything out of him physically, did him in.
Rocker ‘Knew He Was Going To Die’
“Back in the ’90s, Tom had a very bad heroin habit, and it left him with muscle and bone pain,” tattled a source. “Recently, Tom had to be given vitamin B12 shots — 30 or 40 units a day — just to give him the energy to perform! Tom was in severe pain. He was due to have a hip replacement and was exhausted from working his butt off…His family begged him to rest up, but he vowed to finish the tour for his fans.”
When Tom took the stage for the final time at the Hollywood Bowl on Sept. 25, he considered it his farewell to loyal followers, insiders said.
“Tom knew there wouldn’t be any more shows,” a source confessed. “He wanted to go out on top. He blew the place away!”
When the concert ended, insiders revealed, he was in a virtual state of collapse.
“Tom left it all on stage,” the source spilled. “Unfortunately, it cost him his life!”

he couldn't deliver even 1% of this pop iconic history compared to this...

Agreed, the first half of the song is GREAT.

Why the eff did/does Macca ruin such a great song with 3-4 minutes of Na na na na..............When I've seen it in concert, I'm like please end this.........When I hear it on the radio, I change it when it gets to that part.

So he ripped off Roger McGuinn, and wasn't the Beatles.

He also couldn't deliver the payload of a B-17 from 24,000 feet.

I also remember a previous post where you were certain Keith Moon had to have over-dubbed his drumming during live performances because he couldn't have done it that well, lol.

What a ball of delight!

Does not really matter. He is still gone, and far too soon.

I think the family’s statement is worth posting:

OUR FAMILY SAT TOGETHER THIS MORNING WITH THE MEDICAL EXAMINER – CORONER’S OFFICE AND WE WERE INFORMED OF THEIR FINAL ANALYSIS THAT TOM PETTY PASSED AWAY DUE TO AN ACCIDENTAL DRUG OVERDOSE AS A RESULT OF TAKING A VARIETY OF MEDICATIONS.

UNFORTUNATELY TOM’S BODY SUFFERED FROM MANY SERIOUS AILMENTS INCLUDING EMPHYSEMA, KNEE PROBLEMS AND MOST SIGNIFICANTLY A FRACTURED HIP.

DESPITE THIS PAINFUL INJURY HE INSISTED ON KEEPING HIS COMMITMENT TO HIS FANS AND HE TOURED FOR 53 DATES WITH A FRACTURED HIP AND, AS HE DID, IT WORSENED TO A MORE SERIOUS INJURY.

ON THE DAY HE DIED HE WAS INFORMED HIS HIP HAD GRADUATED TO A FULL ON BREAK AND IT IS OUR FEELING THAT THE PAIN WAS SIMPLY UNBEARABLE AND WAS THE CAUSE FOR HIS OVER USE OF MEDICATION.

WE KNEW BEFORE THE REPORT WAS SHARED WITH US THAT HE WAS PRESCRIBED VARIOUS PAIN MEDICATIONS FOR A MULTITUDE OF ISSUES INCLUDING FENTANYL PATCHES AND WE FEEL CONFIDENT THAT THIS WAS, AS THE CORONER FOUND, AN UNFORTUNATE ACCIDENT.

AS A FAMILY WE RECOGNIZE THIS REPORT MAY SPARK A FURTHER DISCUSSION ON THE OPIOID CRISIS AND WE FEEL THAT IT IS A HEALTHY AND NECESSARY DISCUSSION AND WE HOPE IN SOME WAY THIS REPORT CAN SAVE LIVES. MANY PEOPLE WHO OVERDOSE BEGIN WITH A LEGITIMATE INJURY OR SIMPLY DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE POTENCY AND DEADLY NATURE OF THESE MEDICATIONS.

ON A POSITIVE NOTE WE NOW KNOW FOR CERTAIN HE WENT PAINLESSLY AND BEAUTIFULLY EXHAUSTED AFTER DOING WHAT HE LOVED THE MOST, FOR ONE LAST TIME, PERFORMING LIVE WITH HIS UNMATCHABLE ROCK BAND FOR HIS LOYAL FANS ON THE BIGGEST TOUR OF HIS 40 PLUS YEAR CAREER. HE WAS EXTREMELY PROUD OF THAT ACHIEVEMENT IN THE DAYS BEFORE HE PASSED.

WE CONTINUE TO MOURN WITH YOU AND MARVEL AT TOM PETTY AND THE HEARTBREAKERS INCREDIBLE POSITIVE IMPACT ON MUSIC AND THE WORLD. AND WE THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR LOVE AND SUPPORT OVER THE LAST MONTHS.

THANK YOU ALSO FOR RESPECTING THE MEMORY OF A MAN WHO WAS TRULY GREAT DURING HIS TIME ON THIS PLANET BOTH PUBLICLY AND PRIVATELY.

WE WOULD BE GRATEFUL IF YOU COULD RESPECT THE PRIVACY OF THE ENTIRE HEARTBREAKER FAMILY DURING THIS DIFFICULT TIME.

DANA PETTY AND ADRIA PETTY

Take care of yourself and the fans would understand, you didn’t need the money

When you reflect on the family’s statement— there’s a bit of a romantic nature to dying doing what you love... but a whole lot of sadness that he didn’t just take care of himself. They clearly (and understandably) are trying to make the best of it but....
