CLTbills Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 What an amazing young man. Worked his entire life to make it to the NFL, finally gets a paycheck.... and donates it to those ladies. Absolute class act. Well done young man!
C.Biscuit97 Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 That is awesome. I think the NFL needs more heros like him There are a lot more players like that. They just dont make the news because bad news sells. Warrick Dunns Mom was a police officer killed in the line of duty. And man, I really, really warmed up to Watson at the draft. He had some flaws but he seemed like a winner and leader. I think Houston got a really good one.
87168 Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 (edited) This isnt Bills related but I think it is worth posting about. I think more players should put their money where their mouth is. Hats off to Deshaun Watson for donating his first game check to three ladies hit hard by the hurricane. Instead of protesting, go out and make a bigger difference in the community so your message can be heard. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/deshaun-watson-gives-game-check-to-workers-hit-hard-by-hurricane-harvey/ funny you should mention that. number 7 has done both: http://ftw.usatoday.com/2017/08/colin-kaepernick-nfl-national-anthem-protest-one-million-dollar-pledge-donations-empower-communities he's actually donated way more (money) than watson, and has actually been immersed in the communities and youth programs...but ya know... Blokestradamus Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 Deshaun Watson is a wonderful human being. I'm certainly going to root for him to succeed because I think he'll do great things with that platform. I think back to this moment every time I see him - https://twitter.com/NFL/status/857789343276072960

Donating money after a tragedy is not the same thing as utilizing first amendment rights to ignite conversations to spark social change. I think the people protesting deserve praise for taking risks and putting themselves in the line of fire to fight for what they believe is right. Just like Watson deserve praise for reaching out and giving to help those in need. PS: Is someone going to start the Kapernick giving thread because he's given more money (millions) and time to kids and the local communities than many athletes today, including Watson? Or is this just going to be hypocritical and only praise Watson because he hasn't fought for equal rights and against social injustice? Crazy how some people still want to make him a villain even though the only thing he has done is put himself on the line to fight the very real social injustices across this country today. Well said, I agree wholeheartedly. And kudos to you, Deshaun Watson. You are truly a class act, a young man deserving of all the praise coming your way. My hats off to you, I pray you keep your admirable ways, and that the seduction of the power, fame and riches of the NFL does not corrupt you... (And I will pretend that I'm not aware you're dating a porn star lol.) 😜

I think more is being said about the division this has caused rather than the issue. Talking about the divide is what sells news, not offering ways to mend. Most of the players took a knee in response to what Trump said, not social issues. I dont see how taking a knee is changing anything but everyone has their own opinion. I dont have anything bad to say about Kap...he has donated quite a lot of money including proceeds from jersey sales. I just think he isnt a good QB and he wants to start somewhere so he is sitting at home. According to Ray Lewis the Ravens were looking at signing Kap when Flacco got hurt until Kaps girlfriend posted a pic of Lewis and the Ravens owner comparing them to Django.

I agree that the focus isn't on the issue enough, i think the owners wanted to do something so not to lose their players. Taking a knee isn't intended to solve the problem, but to bring awareness to it, just like wearing a pink ribbon won't cure breast cancer.

The division is coming from a President that suggested the NFL strip its players of their First Amendment Rights. And make no mistake about it, its a "look over here, instead of over there" move by President Dump who has done this non stop since campaigning. And that is also only true this past weekend. Prior to this weekend, the players were protesting against social injustice and tragedies like what happened in Charlottesville. Most importantly though, the players this past weekend, the owners, and the NFL in general stood by each other to take stand to support their fellow players rights to peacefully stand up for what they believe and against the injustice they feel people still endure. Yet, for the most part Kapernick is still somehow maintained a Villain role, yet he does more off the field for kids and the community than most athletes do over all the professional sports. And he did that long before his protest started. He's never been a trouble maker on or off the field either, yet here we are still seeing him as an unfair villain all because he wanted to take a stand for people who have been wronged, hurt, or killed unjustly. Literally standing for his fellow Americans who suffer. But the media and so many people want to PRETEND he is protesting the flag or how HE is being treated, and that couldn't be further from the truth.

Just a little...actually a LARGE...point: these players are AT WORK when they are conducting these "protests", and their bosses (the NFL owners) can certainly tell them how to act AT WORK. IOW, the First Amendment really doesn't apply when you are at work. Anybody who gets up and goes to work every day knows this FACT very well.

Could you please post where any of this is in the CBA? excellent try though.

We cannot have too many examples of this to share I was just responding directly to another poster's comments made IN THIS THREAD. Sorry it offended you. As to the actual topic of this thread: I agree with all the others who are praising Deshaun Watson; he is AWESOME! Also, I have stated elsewhere in these forums that I think that ALL of the NFL players who are "protesting" during the National Anthem should put their money where their mouth is and donate time & money in their local communities....ALL of them.

frostbitmic Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 It's a good thing that I'm not the Bills GM or those ladies in Houston would've likely not been the beneficiary of Mr Watson's good will. The reason for that is that he would've been a Buffalo Bill because I don't believe in passing up a franchise QB when we have a chance to draft one. Watson was my top choice in this past draft. Good QB ... Better man !!!
bklnpete Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 I just saw an NFL and United Way commercial highlighting the charity efforts of a few players in the league. Two of the guys I know for sure took a knee on Sunday. I'm so confused; are they sons of bitches or good Americans??
