Max Fischer
Once again, the ONLY people whose panties are twisted over this are the very people keeping the story alive: sports writers. Lurker
I'd say an offensive lineman selling more jerseys than Tom Brady is the definition of a big deal. Because he's an offensive lineman. Not Tom Brady. Let's agree to disagree. If, say, 200 Villanueva jerseys were sold, that's still small potatoes in the grand scheme of things. Not some kind of groundswell, as the article seems to imply... Some perspective from earlier this year: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000822076/article/rookie-james-conner-has-nfls-hottestselling-jersey Or this http://money.cnn.com/2016/09/06/news/companies/colin-kaepernick-jersey-nfl/index.html?iid=EL Edited September 25, 2017 by Lurker
boyst
Yep, they and the news media could not resist this non-story. Although the NFL has got to be loving this. You just know that the NFL's television ratings went up this week. they've been as low if not lower than last year. Neilson has yet to give ratings for yesterday that I have seen. CommonCents
No. They went up. Why? Because there are millions of far-left people who hate sports, but who tuned in to watch all the announcers and players piss and moan about the president, who they hate with a passion. This is porn to the far left. Long term it's bad though, because after the initial excitement of watching something burn goes away then it's just about the game and they won't tune in. The NFL is going to lose casual viewers who just want to zone in and tune of to a mindless game. They will also lose the hardcore trumpsters. IDBillzFan
You mean sports writers and Americans who care about the country . . . Nope, because if you eliminate the sports writers, you'd never hear the cries of the Americans who care about the country. They are only loud because they're being provoked. stony
they've been as low if not lower than last year. Neilson has yet to give ratings for yesterday that I have seen. This was discussed in another thread, but a large chunk of high population states (Texas and Florida) were without power. Big impact. Also, early reports are week 3 is up. But this week, the left got their porn.

Blokestradamus
I'm really glad that this is the case. Alejandro has a fantastic story that should be spoken about more than it is. Everything that I've seen/read about him suggests a man of incredible courage and character. It's well worth reading this so you don't fall into a trap of projecting your own feelings on to his stance - https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/sports/wp/2017/09/25/before-alejandro-villanueva-stood-alone-he-discussed-colin-kaepernick-at-training-camp/?utm_term=.ca98284b0100

They are only loud because they're being provoked. You do realize that its the President who packaged a few megatons of explosives and lit the fuse? God forbid he would talk about health care, the economy or say the disaster in Puerto Rico.

Numark3
Lets compare his jersey sales to kaepernicks after their respective demonstrations. Oh wait, it doesnt matter and this is childish? Agreed
/dev/null
Villanueve seems like a really interesting guy, BTW. I'm sure we'll be hearing more from him this week... AV has already had his own commercial for USAA running on game day the last season or two. For those unaware of USAA, it's an insurance and financial company serving active duty and veterans
