Over 29 years of fanhood Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 I never got how EJ ruined him. He didn't want to cut a 1st rounder right away. He brought in other qbs to challenge him. He brought in Tyrod who helped lead a top 10 offense. I'd say Rex was most detrimental to his career in buffalo and then McDermott walked in and drove the nail in the coffin
Buftex Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 There is a place for Whaley in the NFL. Under solid management and a different atmosphere I can see him having success. He brought in an influx of talent. EJ ruined him... I think if he was allowed to function as a real NFL GM (ie: not Rex Ryan's servant) he would have been fine. I believe he is responsible for bringing us Jordan Poyer, btw...

Ignoring the fact that striking on a QB in the draft is like winning millions on a lottery, it is much easier to say the GM sucked if a 1st rounder doesn't pan out. To me, Whaley was never the problem with this team...
Rubes Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 Nice to see we have our work cut out for us this week...

26CornerBlitz Posted September 18, 2017 Author Posted September 18, 2017 Call of the Game: Hughes Sack (0:31)Listen and watch as John Murphy gives this week's Hilbert College Call of the Game. Bills' Defensive End Jerry Hughes sacks Quarterback Cam Newton for an 18 yard loss on third down.
C.Biscuit97 Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 It was more doubling down on EJ by trading up for Sammy the next year. do you not think Sammy could have helped us win that game yesterday? Trading up for a wr isn't the best move ever. However, when healthy, he is a very good player who can be a difference maker.
26CornerBlitz Posted September 20, 2017 Author Posted September 20, 2017 JERRY HUGHES: "IT WAS FUN TO BE BACK IN THE FRONT FOUR" (11:46) Bills DE Jerry Hughes joined The John Murphy Show to talk about his strong start to the season, the team's performance so far, and his efforts in aiding Hurricane Harvey victims.
The Real Buffalo Joe Posted September 20, 2017 Posted September 20, 2017 (edited) Dude donated $50,000 to hurricane relief, and is donating an additional $5,000 for every sack he makes. I also know his mother in law, and he gives her $500 for every flag thrown on him. Edited September 20, 2017 by The Real Buffalo Joe
26CornerBlitz Posted September 21, 2017 Author Posted September 21, 2017 JERRY HUGHES: "WORK TOGETHER" (3:51) Bills Defensive Lineman Jerry Hughes addressed the media inside the locker room topics include; how well the defense has played in the first two games, playing against the Denver Broncos, and third down defense.

However, when healthy, he is a very good player who can be a difference maker. He absolutely could have. It's just that trading away next year's one is a vote of confidence for the QB you took the year before. When Atlanta traded up for Julio, they had Matt Ryan who already looked like the real deal.
fergie's ire Posted September 21, 2017 Posted September 21, 2017 Nice to see we have our work cut out for us this week... Nah...no worries. Dallas doesn't have a very good offensive line, right?
26CornerBlitz Posted October 2, 2017 Author Posted October 2, 2017 @LedyardNFLDraft Jerry Hughes out for blood this year. What a play
Royale with Cheese Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 So he's up to $40,000? $25,000 + $15,000
KHAN Posted October 2, 2017 Posted October 2, 2017 Jerry played his ass off last year in Rex's ****ty defense. But it is in a way a comeback year as far as effectiveness. Just not his fault IMO.
26CornerBlitz Posted October 6, 2017 Author Posted October 6, 2017 @salmaiorana Jerry Hughes is playing like a man possessed, and the #Bills defense is soaring. Here’s my SalSpeak column. https://www.democratandchronicle.com/story/sports/2017/10/06/jerry-hughes-buffalo-bills-defense-leads-nfl-sean-mcdermott/737630001/ ORCHARD PARK – If Jerry Hughes has a dart board at his suburban Buffalo home, it would not surprise me if there’s a picture of Rex Ryan covering the bullseye. Don’t get me wrong; Hughes doesn’t dislike Ryan, but there’s no question that Hughes’ career was set back a little by his misuse in Ryan’s ill-suited (at least for the Bills) 3-4 defense. Everyone but Ryan seemed to understand that Hughes is a 4-3 pass-rushing defensive end, and his primary responsibility each week should have been to play stout against the run, and then get after the quarterback, and maybe not necessarily in that order.
Call_Of_Ktulu Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 He might be playing at a higher level than Mack or Miller through 4 games. Unblockable, Pressure, Gap controll, great coverage and awareness. When the Bills traded up for Sammy I though for sure they did it for Mack. I was just sitting there saying to myself holy $&!? we got Mack and Hughes and Brady will only play one more season because he would get broken playing the Bills.
Pine Barrens Mafia Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 Yep... Ignoring the fact that striking on a QB in the draft is like winning millions on a lottery, it is much easier to say the GM sucked if a 1st rounder doesn't pan out. To me, Whaley was never the problem with this team... Whaley caved to Marcel Dareus. Gave him EASILY the worst contract. Also spent two ones on a WR for a QB who clearly wasn't the answer. Bad GM was bad.
Original Byrd Man Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 Suh set the bar and while he is a better player than Dareus not by much. Dareus' contract is less than Suh's and if he returns to the level he was at before the new deal all will be forgotten. Also heard Hughes hasn't been 100% as he has been nursing a groin injury.
