Lets not make crap up.

Goodell did nothing to help keep Bills in Buffalo. At best he was neutral but make no mistake, the Bills were going to high bidder regardless of whether they wanted to eventually move the Bills.

It was all Pegs that saved the Bills for Buffalo.

I am sure it pissed off Jerry Jones who openly commented the team needed to look at a higher potential revenue area like Toronto.

Don't forget about Ralph Wilson and the language he had put into the trust. It brought the bids down substantially because moving the team was going to be difficult , the team was worth less $$ in Buffalo. Pegulas overbid just kind of sealed the deal.

I’d like to thank the entire ownership group for their continued support, and all the fans who have demonstrated their encouragement and appreciation.

I look forward to continuing the process of evolving and improving the NFL experience for our players and fans alike for many years to come.

Two kinds of people in the world: money makers and money takers.   Goodell is the former, Brees the latter.

Jerry crushed by his peers.  He blew all of his capital on some dopey RB.  Foolish.

Yes Ralph it made it more expensive to move the Bills immedialty but that roadblock was weak and temporary. But make no mistake the trust was bound by legal rules to sell to highest bidder for best return for the trust. Local feelings be damned. They had to sell to high bidder and if high bidder was the Jon Bon Jovi Toronto group they had combined as deep of pockets as Pegs and had no problem paying the large penalty for moving to Toronto early or waiting for the lease buyout to expire.

There was a reason they scouted stadium sites in Toronto at same time they denied they would move the team.. This franchise was headed to Toronto sooner rather than later if Jon Bon Jovi won the bid.

Jon Bon Jovi had this in the palm of his hands and only because he did not have the capital to be controlling owner doomed him. All he had to do was relax his overbearing ego and let the other multi billionaires from Toronto contribute more to the bid and be the majority controlling money contributors and they could have competed with Pegs. Toronto group then could have appointed Bon Jovi as President or what ever title he craved to be in control just like George Steinbrenner was a <5% owner of Yankees yet was the iron fisted controller.

His screw up was Buffalo's gain. Thank the football Gods for Jon Bo Jovi ego killing his chance. He had it all. Lunch with Goodell,  Jerry Jones and Kraft, on his side. What a Billsy thing Jon Bon Jovi did to himself in retrospect.

New owner could have just waited for lease expiration in 2022 and moved for no penalty. This would have given Toronto group plenty of time to navigate Canada's complex stadium financing and approval process and get a new stadium built by 2022 with no temp home in Rogers Centre needed. Or lawsuit to move early and pay as little as 28 million. Even the 400 million would not stop some multibillionaires seeing gold in Toronto from moving to a much higher income producing area in Toronto or other city.

Jerry Jones put forth resolution to table Roger Goodell contract talks for 6 months, per memo

"The owners who supported [Jones] are not exactly influencers and arm-twisters," one owner said. "They're just happy that Jerry wanted to talk to them."

Memorable league meeting expected in Dallas

But the sense is that he’s (jerrah) got some other plan, unknown for now, to advance his agenda — and if necessary to create a little chaos. Eventually, it’s believed he’ll find a way to declare victory, even if the end result (in the eyes of most of his peers) is that the league, by virtue of the ugliest, most public fight among owners in years, has lost.

It's not a revelation that the trust had fiduciary obligation to sell to the highest bidder. That was well known, and local feelings were never going to be an influence. However, the details put in by Ralph made the team less palatable to outsiders. Temporary or minor as you make them out to be , they had their desired effect. If the deep pocketed Toronto group had wanted to, they could have kicked Bon Jovi ( likely the least moneyed of the group) to the curb and formed their own group and bid whatever they wished. They didn't want to ,apparently . It was widely reported that the bids were going to come in lower after details of the trust were made known to the interested parties. The additional $$ and the lower potential ROI with the franchise in Buffalo was a large factor in that outcome.

Can't and won't argue anything you just mentioned. We agree pretty close.

Big thing was the Toronto group passed on it's chance and unclear as to exactly why as they have never commented, but absolutely yes Ralph setup a temporary road block that in the end appeared to work out in favor of Bills fans in Buffalo. We all got lucky Pegs was willing to bid. Greatest day in my Bills fan life when it was announced Pegs was buying.
