PolishDave Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 What has football become? Ehh.. Canadian Socialists' mindset hard at work. The "STATE" must decide what level of physical risk you can take. They will be the first to convert to flag football. Then you'll see a bunch of soccer guys converting to football because it will be more like soccer but you get to touch the ball with your hands and wear pads in case you fall down and go boom. Mommies across Canada will be rejoicing.
MJS Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 The sport with the most concussions in high school is women's soccer. Not true. It is football by a mile. But girls socker is very high. Boys football and boys hockey are the highest. http://www.headcasecompany.com/concussion_info/stats_on_concussions_sports
Max Fischer Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 Once upon a time they said that only the weak drank water during practice. Leagues are evolving. Some is each league protecting its ass(ets), some is each players group becoming better informed and some is the past players. Football is football. Right. Water, how could I forget the dumbest of them all? That one never made any sense, it's not like it was "game conditions" where water would not be available. It just led to dehydration and subsequent injuries.
LTarmy Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 People always overreact to change. Football 🏈 is still very popular in the US and the NFL is a cash cow. People who are saying it is a dying sport are just being dramatic. The south and the mid west are pipelines for college teams and they are suffering any recruiting issues because of head injuries. Players are bigger, stronger and faster then they were in the 60'sand 70s. Now we have science to help and treat head injuries and of course A group of fans are going to be upset about good change. The NFL needs to protect 20 year olds from making decisions to get back on the field when they have suffered a head injury. Just because you as a fan want to live in the past where you believe the sport was great...doesn't make it so. If you feel that way, go on YouTube and watch "the good old days". People always complain about change and then overreact to it and act as if the sky is falling.
Over 29 years of fanhood Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 Funny thing is Soccer really isn't all that safer to play than football if it is at all to begin with. No helmet, or pads. They have some pretty nasty collisions in Soccer too. Not nearly as many. Not even close
LTarmy Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 Not nearly as many. Not even close While we all can agree soccer can be violent, studies and stats support your statement. Keep in mind this. It is pretty much public knowledge that both the NFL and players withheld information on report concussions. So what information we do have, it is likely worse for football. Everyone knows that smacking your head against anything can cause some long term problems. I think the NFL for once is actually taking the right steps to prevent an identified player who had a concussion and putting him back on the field. This isn't bad, but people in general are resistant to good change (for what ever reason...and it is usually dumb) and are overdramatizing the long term effects of these changes.
boyst Posted September 14, 2017 Author Posted September 14, 2017 Not nearly as many. Not even closebut soccer is still gaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy
Over 29 years of fanhood Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 but soccer is still gaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy Thanks for reiterating your position on that topic "boys" ...
boyst Posted September 14, 2017 Author Posted September 14, 2017 Thanks for reiterating your position on that topic "boys" ...wise guy, eh?
LTarmy Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 Thanks for reiterating your position on that topic "boys" ... Yeah...he might want to consider changing that name
row_33 Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 They have part-time jobs through the season to make ends meet.

row_33 Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 The CFL has no rules to protect their QBs, a few years ago when I paid attention it seemed like 7 of the 9 were out from getting slammed to the ground or a late hit.
TheFunPolice Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 (edited) I wonder how much all of the new rules and concussion protocol will help current players when they are older. It could be that all of these changes will drastically reduce issues players have later in life. There are plenty of former NFL players who live full happy lives after football, so it doesn't have to lead to concussion related issues. The game has changed so much that it has to have had some positive impacts, but we won't know for a long time. Edited September 14, 2017 by TheFunPolice
RoyBatty is alive Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 Things have gone too far. its just starting so everyone just makes it up come game time. That should make for safer games when nobody knows what they are doing
row_33 Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 (edited) .....and the league's entire season ticket holder base of 467 signed a petition in unison............... they take it very seriously in the Western cities.... Toronto hasn't cared since the Jays rolled into town in 1977. Used to be a huge deal here. Not true. It is football by a mile. But girls socker is very high. Boys football and boys hockey are the highest. http://www.headcasecompany.com/concussion_info/stats_on_concussions_sports Volleyball is the most dangerous based on number of injuries. But not many people wind up in wheelchairs or die playing volleyball, as compared to football. Edited September 14, 2017 by row_33

I live in football crazy Texas, 20 years ago very few parents were worried about their kids play football, i would say right now probably a third wont even let their kids play. NFL popularity is falling and will fall just as other sports have through the years and the lawyers will only get richer. You will start to see high school football banned in states, then college players start suing their former collleges, etc. Pro football will look like the all star game in 20 years.

Insurance damaged the game in Canada as premiums for injuries, helmet liability, busing the kids all skyrocketed on top of concerns for permanent damage. Edited September 14, 2017 by row_33
bills-fan in arizona Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 Practicing tackling is how you clean the game up. Not tackling in practice is more dangerous. Exactly !!
row_33 Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 everyone agrees that proper tackling should be taught... yeah of course it is!!! that's better football, and then you watch what they do every Saturday and Sunday at the top levels.... would be funny if not so tragic.
