Kirby Jackson Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 (edited) While I certainly agree with your larger point throughout the thread, there can be a myriad of coverage responsibilities in a cover-2 by those in charge of the underneath stuff. So in that sense a cover-2 may work in many different ways within the scope of a particular scheme. The only constant is the defined responsibility of the deep safeties for their respective deep halves which, as you are fully aware, is what defines a cover-2.Of course, but the key there is "the underneath stuff." This was more of a Tampa 2 play (which makes McCourty's decision to go to the middle even worse). I guess that it doesn't matter though. Some people are convinced that it is on Gilmore because he went to NE. None of us want him to succeed. I just don't want to make stuff up though to make him look worse. He has moved on to the new girl. There's no reason to make up lies about him. It was a decent relationship while it lasted but it's over. He's moved and so should we. I can see why McCourty did what he did though. He had a man running wide open in that deep middle; he almost HAD to bite hard on that. Again, credit Reid. It was masterful.

atlbillsfan1975 Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 Yes. The Pats are the enemy, the dark lord of football. If Gilmore went to say, the 49ers then whatever. Unless SF was playing the Bills, of course.I think some guys are just wanting to show they understand coverage more than they really care about Gilmore. I get it.
BringBackOrton Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 Uh yeah, I'll go out on a limb and say Gilmore misses more tackles than the top CBs in the league. Prove it.
BringBackOrton Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 (edited) I'll loan HD my time machine. It's not hard. Just gotta watch all the other players as much as you watch Gilmore. Every snap. Otherwise, how could you know? Edited September 9, 2017 by jmc12290
Doc Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 It's not hard. Just gotta watch all the other players as much as you watch Gilmore. Every snap. Otherwise, how could you know? I believe pro football focus looks at that.
Augie Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 100% agree, he had two guys running free. I said on the first page that play was a TD before the ball was snapped. Maybe the bills should make note of that! Haha
BringBackOrton Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 PFF ratings are meaningless to me. They use broadcast footage when doing their grades. I believe pro football focus looks at that. too bad.
3rdand12 Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 Maybe the bills should make note of that! Haha no sht. Bills i am sure will be studying that tape already. Championship goes through the Patriots . Gotta be able to beat em
HappyDays Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 too bad. I trust PFF's signature stats much more than I trust their subjective grades. But I'm not a PFF member so I can't look at it. They do keep track of missed tackles, would be interesting to see it.
dave mcbride Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 A deeper analysis: https://www.patspulpit.com/2017/9/13/16283498/film-review-new-england-patriots-big-play-issues-kansas-city-chiefs-tyreek-hill-kareem-hunt-nfl. Conclusion: McCourty's fault.
It's in My Blood Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 Never liked Gilmore. He's talented but not a top 10 CB and he's never really shown himself to be a team player. Always pointing fingers. Weak tackling technique also.
reddogblitz Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 Uh yeah, I'll go out on a limb and say Gilmore misses more tackles than the top CBs in the league. The ONLY guy I've ever seen that was as bad a tackler was Dion Sanders. They didn't pay hm tackle, or so he said. Maybe it's just me, but if a guy plays on defense, he needs to tackle sometimes.
Herb62 Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 I live in LA from Buffalo, I follow both teams. I said in an earlier post Truman Johnson is a shut down CB that is a great tackler as well. Gilmore is neither glad he went to the Pats, lets hope age catches Brady this year and the tide begins to change.
