dezertbill Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 @mikerodak 31 other teams passed on a player with a minimum-salary contract. Like I said. There has to be something up with this situation. Drug suspension or conduct issue or something. Karlos Williams part II @sigmundbloom McDermott indicated that Williams lost out in BUF bc of special teams, that may keep him on street until RB injuries strike That sounds like a cop out. Like Shady plays special teams? If a guy is a solid talent ST won't be a deal breaker in making a team. There has to be something more to it and McD is using it to keep the reason in house.
YoloinOhio Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 I get the emphasis on special teams - I mean, a lot of games are won or lost through good/bad ST play - but maybe this is getting a bit ridiculous, given that it's also a partial justification for signing the hideous Joe Webb?looks like other teams also expect their depth players to be able to play ST
QCity Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 Former Buffalo Bills RB Jonathan Williams passes through waivers unclaimed ✔@mikerodak 31 other teams passed on a player with a minimum-salary contract.

Doc Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 But we were told EXPLICITLY here on TSW that there was no dropoff between he and Mike Gillislee after MG lead the NFL in ypc and short yardage conversions....... No worries. Banyard will replace MG.

Williams will land on his feet with a job at some point.
BADOLBILZ Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 @sigmundbloom McDermott indicated that Williams lost out in BUF bc of special teams, that may keep him on street until RB injuries strike Fortunately, our star RB is never hurt. Joe Bastage and Productive Taiwan......Thunder and Lightning.
EasternOHBillsFan Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 Damn even the rest of the league realizes how badly Whaley's picks sucked!
The Frankish Reich Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 i don't get the comparison. Starters aren't expected to play ST. Depth players are. I'm not sure "primary backup RB" is in the same situation as, say, 3rd TE ....
Rico Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 Damn even the rest of the league realizes how badly Whaley's picks sucked! Shhh!
The Frankish Reich Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 Fortunately, our star RB is never hurt. Joe Bastage and Productive Taiwan......Thunder and Lightning. Exactly.
Green Lightning Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 Well there's got to be more to this than we know. He had a great preseason and picked up the blitz a lot better than Banyard. Something's up. Well at least Miller is starting and not Vlad-the-Bad.

ST well until Danny Crossman gets McBeaned I have little confidence in the unit. How is that loser still coaching the Bills?
26CornerBlitz Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 Damn even the rest of the league realizes how badly Whaley's picks sucked! To be fair, most of his picks from 14-16 are still in the league.
Watching since 1964 Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 (edited) Although McD was understandably very guarded in what he said today, I liked that he said that JW "did everything we asked him to." Edited September 4, 2017 by RockpileSurvivor
Wayne Arnold Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 There has to be something more to it and McD is using it to keep the reason in house. JONATHAN. WILLIAMS. IS. NOT. NEARLY. AS. GOOD. OR. VALUABLE. AS. YOU. THINK. HE. IS.
HappyDays Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 I wonder if every other team message board has a 30 page meltdown because their GMs passed on Jon Williams
NoSaint Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 It's easy to fathom- much like WR there are a about 1,000 guys that are pretty similar once you get past the top half of the crop. Come this crossroad in preseason many teams go with the guy they know and the guy that knows their system and fit the scheme. The body types and skill sets aren't quite as rare as some positions though That said, you can still let the wrong one go when choosing between two.
