artmalibu
Tolbert is not an effective player...what other formations do you think he'll play? Short yaradage 3rd down, block/run/catch option fullback in front of LM. with the option to split LM out as a WR to create mismatch
MAJBobby
Please supply some proof that Tolbert was promised anything. Go read McD comments when he signed in March Short yaradage 3rd down, block/run/catch option fullback in front of LM. with the option to split LM out as a WR to create mismatch Ha ha ok. Wayne Arnold
Thats a good point. Trying to figure out how the tide turned so fast on Jwill since most here thought he was trash a few months ago. He looked better this preseason but the others looked good too. They probably hope to just stash him on the PS. If he does happen to get claimed, they will find another young RB to stash. Unintelligent and/or ignorant people tend to confuse their assumptions for truth. The fans having tantrums now assumed that Jonathan Williams was the first backup running back on the roster when preseason ended. When that was proven to not be the case, instead of adjusting their perceptions ("wow, it turns out Banyard and Tolbert were ahead of Williams - that's unexpected"), they lash out and cast blame ("Beane and the front office don't know what they're doing!"). Doc
I've never seen backup RB's get so much love before. All you heard people saying before was "RB's are a dime a dozen/the RB position has been devalued" and now people are soiling themselves over backups RB's being let go. Very funny. It is mostly the same people who complained about Gillislee now complaining about Jon Williams. And before that they complained when Fred Jackson was cut. Backup RBs are way undervalued now. I'm sure Jon Williams will end up somewhere but if any team really wanted him they could have given us a 7th round pick. No takers.
26CornerBlitz
@ChrisBrownBills McDermott: J. Williams release had nothing to do w/way we want to operate. Did everything we asked of him. #Bills @JaySkurski McDermott says it's "by committee" when asked who the No. 2 running back is behind LeSean McCoy. #Bills

Heitz
So earned the postion but was cut and Tolbert will now get more carries. They didn't say he "earned the position", they said he "did everything we asked of him" - i.e. he tried hard and didn't F up, they just felt the other players were better. That's unexpected. Roundybout
Neither does Tolberts 3.3 ypc does it. But its ok Wayne dont question the Process. Blindly trust it. Thats what they want from fans I think he means give them more than FIVE MONTHS IN.

The point is asset management and talent development. Hanging on to and nurturing young, cheap players with an upside is how winning teams stay on top. And continually throwing away players drafted by previous regimes for older / on the downside vets is how you go 8-8 year after year. JWill is the latest example of what the Bills do year after year. The frustration comes from fans who view Tolbert as a stop gap "culture" guy vs. someone who could continue to blossom. And Banyard as a 28 year old journeyman who has little chance of getting better in 2018, 2019...

They discard players year after year and for the most part, they go on to doing little elsewhere as well.

Stay healthy Shady. @MatthewFairburn Sean McDermott said the Bills' backup running back duties will be shared by committee. Mike Tolbert, Joe Banyard, Taiwan Jones in the mix. HappyDays
So earned the postion but was cut and Tolbert will now get more carries. Tolbert will stand in front of Lsesn McCoy and take hits. Sometimes he'll stand in front of Tyrod and take hits. Occasionally on short yardage and goalline situations he'll actually carry the ball.
