Mark Vader Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 As an overall disappointing and downtrodden Summer Season comes to an end, the month of September comes along and brings with it more serious fare, as the so called Adult Season of movies begins. The heat is waning, the leaves are changing color, kids are back in school, and football is starting. The big explosions of Summer are gone, although there will be a handful of big fare to take in before the Holiday Season begins. This also officially kicks off the beginning of studios releasing their potential Oscar nominated films, as smaller independent films that have been picked up from the festivals will be on display, as well as major studios adding in their own pricey independent films. Drama will be at the forefront, as will horror, but there's a little action and comedy to go along with it as well. One of Hollywood's biggest stars headlines one of this month's top movies. Tom Cruise stars in "American Made". Based on True accounts, this movie follows Barry Seal, a TWA pilot recruited by the CIA to provide reconnaissance on the burgeoning communist threat in Central America. Three years after the surprise success of "Kingsman: The Secret Service", we now get a follow-up with, "Kingsman: The Golden Circle". Starring Colin Firth, Julianne Moore, Taron Egerton, Mark Strong, Halle Berry, Elton John, Channing Tatum & Jeff Bridges. Directed by Matthew Vaughn Jennifer Lawrence stars in "Mother!". In "The LEGO Ninjago Movie", In this big-screen NINJAGO adventure, the battle for NINJAGO City calls to action young Master Builder Lloyd, aka the Green Ninja, along with his friends, who are all secret ninja warriors. Led by Master Wu, as wise-cracking as he is wise, they must defeat evil warlord Garmadon, The Worst Guy Ever, who also happens to be Lloyd’s dad. Starring the voices of Jackie Chan, Justin Theroux, Dave Franco, Olivia Munn & Michael Pena. Ben Stiller stars in "Brad's Status". outsidethebox Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Mother looks pretty good. Of course I can't wait for IT. Thanks Mark, another great job!!!
Buffalo_Gal Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Definitely seeing Kingsman: The Golden Circle. If it is half as good as the first one, it will be worth the price of admission.
Mark Vader Posted September 1, 2017 Author Posted September 1, 2017 Mother looks pretty good. Of course I can't wait for IT. Thanks Mark, another great job!!! You're welcome. "Mother!" looks pretty good. Darren Aranofsky has a strange vision, but he has made some good movies.
Just Jack Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Is Flatliners a remake? I seem to remember a similar theme in a movie from the 1980's or 90's.
Pine Barrens Mafia Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Definitely seeing Kingsman: The Golden Circle. If it is half as good as the first one, it will be worth the price of admission. Did I see an American version in there? "Statesman"
row_33 Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Is Flatliners a remake? I seem to remember a similar theme in a movie from the 1980's or 90's. sounds familiar, dude with the cigar clipper is recalled
DC Tom Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 (edited) I'm more excited about "Close Encounters" on the big screen than anything else. Is Flatliners a remake? I seem to remember a similar theme in a movie from the 1980's or 90's. 1990, Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon. I believe it is a remake of that. Edit: Just checked IMDB, it looks like a sequel. Sutherland's returning as the same character. Edited September 1, 2017 by DC Tom
dpberr Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 I always read these posts in MovieFone voice. I'll see Kingsman. I think people will see IT and ultimately be disappointed. Why? Nobody out traumatizes a Tim Curry Pennywise.
dhg Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Definitely seeing Kingsman: The Golden Circle. If it is half as good as the first one, it will be worth the price of admission. Totally agree. Thought the first one was unexpectedly really good. Can't wait for the new one!
Bills4everNY Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 Mother looks pretty good. Of course I can't wait for IT. Thanks Mark, another great job!!!That's the one I'm most interested in seeing. I like Darren Aranofsky's films.
LeGOATski Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 I always read these posts in MovieFone voice. I'll see Kingsman. I think people will see IT and ultimately be disappointed. Why? Nobody out traumatizes a Tim Curry Pennywise. Overrated. It's the character that creeps people out. Not the actor. As long as it's written well, we won't be disappointed. That being said, I'm already underwhelmed by the previews because they show very gimmicky actions, like Pennywise's flickering advancement through the water in the basement. It's a stupid Hollywood scare tactic that only worked the first time it was done. All we need is a creepy clown standing there, cracking humiliating jokes with veiled threats.
Captain Murica Posted September 3, 2017 Posted September 3, 2017 First kingsman was awesome, that church scene though!
Gugny Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 My son and I went to see Annabelle today. Combined, we jumped 7 times. Pretty good flick, if you like paranormal thrillers. I'm glad we went.
LeGOATski Posted September 4, 2017 Posted September 4, 2017 With the prescreening done, IT has been getting awesome feedback by critics.
shrader Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 I always read these posts in MovieFone voice. The actual MovieFone voice or Kramer's version of it? Why don't you just tell me which movie you want to see? Anyway, I'll be sitting out this month. Nothing really sticks out to me. It seems like it has been a few months now since anything has caught my eye.Hopefully we're due for a surprise comedy hit soon. I couldn't even tell you the last comedy I saw in theaters.
Mark Vader Posted September 5, 2017 Author Posted September 5, 2017 Did I see an American version in there? "Statesman" Yes, you did.

Well, they're not worth seeing in theaters, anyway. Go to the theater for the effects and sound. Rent comedies.
shrader Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 Well, they're not worth seeing in theaters, anyway. Go to the theater for the effects and sound. Rent comedies. It depends on the movie though. I was thinking specifically of the Hangover when I posted that. A comedy of that quality is so much better in a packed theater, getting to hear the entire room's reaction.

I never saw The Hangover in a theatre, but I doubt it would have made a difference to me. The Hangover is a funny movie, but I think it get far more credit than it deserved. The last comedy movie I saw in a theatre where the audience was in constant laughter, was The Birdcage.
