Taylor would seek a starting role elsewhere and there's zero chance we keep a backup on the roster at that price point. Based on what I've seen so far, he's pretty much the same Tyrod Taylor we had on the roster for the last two seasons. He's unable to throw his receivers open and holds onto the ball way too long. Tyrod gives you the chance to not force your rookie to play week 1. Let them compete. If the rookie beats Tyrod out he beat out a legitimate NFL player not a guy who lost an argument with a floor mat. I think if they were very confident he would fit the scheme, they wouldn't have cut his contract essentially in half and put another walk out clause next year. His contract was re-worked 7-8 months after originally signing it. The contract on the table was to pay Taylor one of the lowest salaries for a starting QB outside of rookie contracts. That's what the FO felt he was worth and IMO were ready to walk away from him if he didn't accept. Hoyer would probably be our starting QB if Taylor pursued other options. They could have just walked away and acquired another veteran FA QB just like Hoyer who they were actually negotiating with. Beane made it very clear the type of QB they are looking for. Belicheck recently did this with Kony Ealy. Thought he would be a good fit to replace Ninkovich but were wrong and shipped him out. Tyrod is here because Dennison wanted him, his contract was cut because the FO wants to evaluate everyone on the roster before committing to them.
