I don't know of many starting QB's who stayed on the team more than one season after being demoted.

It's best for them to move on.

He'd play out his contract and not re-sign anyway. Plus, why would we pay a backup $18M next year?

Why would the Bills have any interest in keeping Taylor beyond this season (even assuming he was willing to take a massive pay cut) when Peterman will presumably have a year under his belt and should be ready to assume the #2 role??

He doesn't fit the scheme. We need a backup QB who fits the scheme, so there would be very little drop off in production.

If he doesn't fit the scheme, then please explain why McDermott and Dennison brought him back as their starting QB.

This is the key point folks. Taylor would seek a starting role elsewhere and there's zero chance we keep a backup on the roster at that price point. Based on what I've seen so far, he's pretty much the same Tyrod Taylor we had on the roster for the last two seasons. He's unable to throw his receivers open and holds onto the ball way too long. Just an average starter in the NFL today.

Because he "led" the offense to the worst passing attack in football last year and the Bills are tanking. That's why.

Personally, I would - subject to how he plays in this offense over the course of a season. Tyrod gives you the chance to not force your rookie to play week 1. Let them compete. If the rookie beats Tyrod out he beat out a legitimate NFL player not a guy who lost an argument with a floor mat. If Tyrod has the edge coming out of camp you can let him start and transition to the rook in season.

I think if they were very confident he would fit the scheme, they wouldn't have cut his contract essentially in half and put another walk out clause next year.

His contract was re-worked 7-8 months after originally signing it.

The contract on the table was to pay Taylor one of the lowest salaries for a starting QB outside of rookie contracts. That's what the FO felt he was worth and IMO were ready to walk away from him if he didn't accept. Hoyer would probably be our starting QB if Taylor pursued other options.

I believe and I could be wrong. They really hadn't nailed down what scheme they want to use and figured TT was the best Qb available

They could have just walked away and acquired another veteran FA QB just like Hoyer who they were actually negotiating with. The point and question remains why did they bring him back at any price if he doesn't fit the offense?

Also take into account they might have been wrong thinking he could fit the offense somewhat. Beane made it very clear the type of QB they are looking for.

Belicheck recently did this with Kony Ealy. Thought he would be a good fit to replace Ninkovich but were wrong and shipped him out.

Tyrod is here because Dennison wanted him, his contract was cut because the FO wants to evaluate everyone on the roster before committing to them.
