Those poor people.....

Hard to fully grasp the scope of what's going on, but that added a stark and depressing perspective. Looking forward to word that conditions start improving.
DC Tom Posted August 30, 2017 Posted August 30, 2017 Thanks for posting. Hard to fully grasp the scope of what's going on, but that added a stark and depressing perspective. Looking forward to word that conditions start improving. I think what drives the scope home most of all is the rather mundane and unexpected stories: A few days ago, authorities in Houston asked for donations of towels, as they had run out of usable ones.

Captain_Quint Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 I think its safe to say that in times like these, we're ALL Texans. Now where's my 40 acres and an AR-15?
boyst Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 the livestock and animals lost there is tremendous. https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/2017/national/harvey-rescues/?utm_term=.273691882862 images and video from the Floods an exes parents live there in cypress. that girl lives in magnolia now, hope she washed away.
ExiledInIllinois Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 I think its safe to say that in times like these, we're ALL Texans. Now where's my 40 acres and an AR-15? Whooo Nellie! Even with the Biblical floods. Let's not go that far... Still Texas. Unfortunately, I did step foot on Texan soil one time, years ago, on way to Mexico. Does airport only count? I will take the 40, mule, and AR-15 though... :-)
The Plastic Cup Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Cups? This is Houston, not Ron Artest... I'll have downtown bailed out by Monday.
/dev/null Posted September 1, 2017 Author Posted September 1, 2017 (edited) I will take the 40, mule, and AR-15 though... alcohol, ass, and guns 'Murca! Edited September 1, 2017 by /dev/null
ExiledInIllinois Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 alcohol, ass, and guns 'Murca! A mule is not an ass. A mule (sterile) is the offspring from a male (jack-jackass is redundant) donkey/ass/burro, and a female horse. A hinny is the opposite, sterile offspring of a female donkey and male horse But nice try. Know your mule & hinny, now you do! :-P
ExiledInIllinois Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Where's my mule? Where's my 40 acre? In my best George Bailey voice... "...If you are in Dallas, can you go another 3 days on a 3/4 of a tank? Will 20 bucks worth of fuel get you through?" http://money.cnn.com/2017/08/31/news/hurricane-harvey-gas-dallas/index.html We are becoming a bunch of "Pottervilles."
The Real Buffalo Joe Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 I lost one of my two cars that I was planning on selling for like $500. Missed about a week and a half of work. But my company is giving us all a weeks pay anyway, so I shouldn't be out of too much money. Other than that, stayed safe and dry.

Anything road worthy will bring a 1000. What happened to it? Maybe live in a house on stilts next. My niece just moved to North Carolina, their house is on stilts... Kinda cool. I told her to build a boat dock & keep boat on trailer ready to float off:

DC Tom Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 I always thought this was pretty crazy. Rebuilt their house after Rita and it survived Ike: http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/09/18/ike.last.house.standing/ Reminds me of Janet Reno's mom/grandmother (I forget which). Survived the great Everglades hurricane in the '30s, and said "!@#$ this, I'm building a storm-proof house." Then designed and built herself a house that some 50 years later survived Andrew with no more damage than a single lost shingle, while everything else in the neighborhood was smashed.

SinceThe70s Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 You can't make this stuff up. In their first home game following the hurricane, the opposing pitcher is Matt Harvey.
