That is why I put in that you expand rosters. I would also give each team a second bye week.

Understood but the owners want more revenue without giving more to the players. Will be a difficult negotiation

Time for a little discussion.

What do you do about preseason football? How many games?

Now your plan has to balance loss revenue (reason owners want the game) and lost game type reps for development (coaches want this).

I say get rid of all the preseason. Instead allow teams the ability to negotiate joint prectices. Sell tickets to them and put them on TV.

That makes up for the loss revenue (people will go and watch)

The joint practices make uo for the crap games and alloe coaches more control to put teams in certain situations you want to put them in.

Me, i would go with 2 preseason games. That's more than enough. Imo

Colleges have no preseason games they just get right into the season.

preseason should be done now. we have seen what we need to see after 2 games. they dont need a preseason at any other level so why is it so long in the NFL? 2 games and 1 scrimmage is all they need and even that's probably too much. either add 2 games to the regular season or add an extra wildcard game to the playoffs

I do also agree with expanding the 53 man roster.

But an easy start is just to allow all 53 be active on game day.

So go to 60 man rosters with all 60 active on game day.

Agree they do have that spring game against eachother (that is why I talked joint practices and such). They also have typically around 80-90 players all season though too when you count redshirts.

Agreed.

Problem with extra regular season games is the product is already diluted. Thursday's are unwatchable.

An extra playoff game would be a good chunk of revenue and a chance for teams like the Bills not to go 18 years w/o making the olayoffsz

. Without question. Between this and drug testing and other issues wouldn't surprise me to have one season lost.

Season only gets lost if player actually saved money

Reduce to 2 preseason games, expand to an 18 game regular season, and expand rosters to 60 with 52 active on game day

I like expanding the playoff format over extending the regular season to avoid meaningless games.

example 13 - 3 team matched up with a 3 - 13 team (18 game regular season)

vs 2 wild card teams at 9 - 7 and 8 - 8 (expanded playoffs)

I'd hate to see the regular season become more meaningless though. If a 3-13 team can make the playoffs that doesn't seem right.

The example was in an extended 18 game season vs wild card matchups in an extended playoff format. ( 3 - 13 doesn't make the playoffs)

I'd love the NFL to line up the notion that they want back to 14 NFL games and 2 preseason for NFL safety and say it kicks off in 2025

Play chicken with the union

I say reduce to 2 pre-season games and eliminate the HOF game. Add an extra bye week and an additional game to the season that would take place during pre season games 3 and 4 (the bye obviously would be randomized throughout the season). Add 3 players to the active roster (2 more dress each game), with another designated IR player that can return. This would add more revenue, allow the players to rest an additional week, give an opportunity for teams to retain 3 more prospects, eliminate .500 teams, and give us more competitive football to watch.

Re: Expanding the roster, why not just increase the Practice Squad to about 15. While they're at it, they could solve the lack of QBs by designating one spot on the PS as untouchable. This would enable teams to draft & spend time developing a QB.

I like the idea of - focusing on certain things instead of playing a full simulated game. You can have like 15-20 minutes of punting/kick coverage plays at the beginning, then have those specialists off on the sidelines working on other stuff - have the offense go x plays. Throw a pick - get the ball back and continue on offense.

Some 7x7 work. 2 minute drills/4 minute drills.

Put the QBs in red jerseys.

You also wouldn't have to worry as much about the star players playing for like 15-20 minutes and then just hanging out at the end. They'd be involved with the first team O on each of the individual drills.

I'd hate to see the regular season become more meaningless though. If a 3-13 team can make the playoffs that doesn't seem right.

I think 7 would be a good number. 7/16 make it and the best team gets Home field and a 1st round bye. Gets you an extra game of playoff revenue, and means more for the team chasing the bye week.

2 games. Then add 1 more playoff team in each conference so that there are two more playoff games in round 1. That additional TV revenue will offset the preseason loss's. Also means only team with best record in each conference gets a first round bye which will make more teams play harder in the last week.

I like this a lot but I would also get rid of the division winner automatically getting in. Seed it by win loss record.

Do season tickets still reflect pre- and regular season games at the same face value?

For playoffs, the rules are set before the season begins, if you are fortunate enough to have a bad division so that you can dog it to an 8 or 9 win home playoff game, then good for you. They play the game week by week based on grabbing home field as painlessly as they can.
