I see nothing here but bn trying to stir the pot, which based off some of the replies in this thread, they succeeded.

I'm sure McD trusts beanes decision(s) since sammy was not only from the last regime but he was also injury prone so in the end, no great loss.

This is soo wrong.......... Should be everyone working not just one person.......... Beane is getting lower on my list. McDermott needs to know lots. Keep him in the shadow only things going to be much worse..

well, he is the GM. He doesn't have to consult the HC on anything roster wise.

Thats bs if true. I'd tell my coach anything..... Like a girl anything I love. Beane I am starting to hate him.

I'm with you. I am so done with this team. We should quit this board. What do you say?

Bean spoke to Sean after the game. They agreed on deal.

This is PK stirring the pot.

My gosh in a couple of years we are going to look back and laugh at all of this.

So much butt hurt over an injured receiver who wouldn't even had signed here in the offseason.

Relax.

This is how I read that-

The GM had talks with teams about a possible trade. This is the GM's job on every other team. The GM then consulted with his coach before making a trade. The trade was then made.

The HC led his team in the day to day preparation of getting ready for the season. The GM looked at the overall team structure and direction of the team now and in the future. Once the GM had an offer in place he thought was a good one the GM brought the offer to the HC and they BOTH decided to make the trade. This is how successful operations are designed to function effectively.

The article was written to show how aligned the HC and GM are. It also shows respect by the GM for the job the HC has to do. The GM did not want to add to the HC already demanding responsibilities and areas of consideration. This is not what we have witnessed recently or have been told has occurred.

Exactly

This team is finally being operated like a professional NFL team. In the past, the transaction would have been made without consult with the HC or ownership. I love the direction this front office is headed!

Hilarious how many people are going full-blown high school lunchroom drama with this completely innocuous news.

Obviously McD and Beane had talked about possibly trading SW since Rams had been calling about SW for months.

McD didn't know before the game, but was informed directly thereafter. Moreover, his and Terry's opinions were brougyt in, and the trade was made once everybody was on board.

Relax, fellas. Beane is the GM, and it is obvious he wouldnt move on this without McD's blessing. Who else do you think was going to put in the legwork on a trade? Anybody screaming bloody murder is either specifically trying to be dramatic, or is an inane alertist without much scope of understanding.

I'm 90% sure this article was written after listening to Beane talk with Jeremy and Howard on WGR.

Beane talks about why he didn't tell McD before the game and how they discussed it for hours after.

Yes, the GM is going to trade the #1 WR and CB three weeks before the season without discussing it with the HC. Give me a break people.

What a waste of a thread. The GM did exactly as he should- he talked with the HC and the Owner and made the trade.

Since McD was already aware of calls - I am sure he and Beane decided at what point compensation was enough and the Rams finally got there. You finally have a functioning FO and people work hard to make it seem out of step - just crazy.

Fans have been asking for a vision - we get 2 guys with a vision and a plan and then people criticize the plan or act like they do not know what they are doing - just makes no sense to me.

Every previous regime had a vision and plan......they were failures but they all had a plan

If true, I am glad that for the most part Beane is making the calls on building the 53 man roster. McD needs to prove himself as a HC, and not be the main man when it comes to trades, waivers, keeping up on ~1500 NFL players, etc...

I don't remember who reported it(might have been Sal), but I chuckled when he said, "before the trade was made, Beane, McD, Kim, Terry & Russ all got together to discuss the move".

i don't know but Beane only said he talked to McD and Terry.

"Beane had a tentative deal in place with the Los Angeles Rams for the now-former Bills wide receiver Sammy Watkins ahead of the team’s game versus the Minnesota Vikings last week, but the general manager chose to keep it a secret from his head coach. Yet, interestingly, under McDermott’s watch, the Bills first four passing plays against the Vikings were dialed up for Watkins - which apparently did enough to reassure the Rams on trading for the wideout, as a deal between the two clubs was made less than 24 hours later.

“Interestingly, Beane didn’t tell McDermott about his tentative deal with the Rams before their game against Minnesota,” Peter King wrote after discussing the deal with Beane. “Imagine the Rams’ shock when, on the first four plays of the game on offense for Buffalo, Tyrod Taylorthrew to Watkins. Beane wanted McDermott, in his first game as coach, not to be shackled but rather to be able to use his 90 players the way he saw fit. They didn’t discuss the chance for the trade until after the game."

That all sounds nice. But I have a hard time believing the opening to the game was not meant to showcase Sammy. If McD wasn't aware of the pending trade why would he be playing into it?

The deal was in place before the game.......and per the Rams GM they were startled that the Bills started the game feeding Sammy the ball 4 times.........and thought the Bills might back out of the deal then.

what happened to the whole one vision

i find it very hard to believe that "successful" operations are trading away their #1 receiver without the coaches knowledge. do you really think things happen this way in NE or GB or even Baltimore?

not to mention, this article displays the exact opposite of "how aligned the HC and GM are". McDermott may be accepting of the trade or complacent, but this wasn't an example of alignment.

for the record, I couldn't care less what the FO does or how they communicate, as long as they build a winner.

the article says McD wasn't aware of the deal "before" the game. The deal happened AFTER or Watkins would not have played in it. I'm not happy about the trade but I could see it coming when they didn't pick up the 5th year option, and that evidently was something everyone in the FO was onboard with, so that does show cohesiveness.

Don't believe anything you read about McDermott not being in the know about Watkins. It's patent BS.

That isn't how sports works. Any player being traded is held out of competition to avoid risk of injury, which would void the deal. I don't care what you have read that the GM supposedly said.

This is all to make it look like Beane actually has juice here. I'm not saying he doesn't have any, but McDermott runs the show, not Beane.

Of course they were showcasing him for the Rams to show he's healthy. That is freaking obvious.

No, not in a situation like the Watkins one. LA wanted to see his patented explosiveness post-injury to see if the rumors of his recovery were true. That strikes me as blindingly obvious.
