CanadianFan Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 This gem was buried in King's column: First thing I thought Friday when I saw Beane had traded Watkins and Darby: Owners Terry and Kim Pegula have to mentally commit to Beane and McDermott for the next five years. Period. The mayhem in Buffalo must stop. ... lists turnover of GMs, coaches, and players over the last 10 years. That happens when you have four franchise architects and three head coaches in that period. Philosophies change, sometimes drastically. But the carnage from these drafts will set the Bills back for years... But, we're at it again.
KellyToughII Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 Well Peter, it seems ownership may have finally got it right for once. Since Marv/Polian/ Butler this team has been a cluster at HC/ GM. So yes I agree, no matter what, McD and Beane get at least 5 years. Regardless of record, leave them alone and let them try to build a team

LeGOATski Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 So if we're 4-12 next 4 years you're ok with a 5th year? Stupid hypithetical. Bills have gone 4-12 or worse only like 3 times in the last 30 years. They're the kings of mediocre!
Bills Fan in MD Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 Watkins' 2016 season was close to a complete washout. If he rebounded this year, he was as good as gone. And if he struggles and/or gets hurt in 2017, he would have continued being a drag on the roster. I agree that it's going to suck if he suddenly has a breakout year with the Rams, but I'm not sure how losing him constitutes blowing up the team.
Captain Murica Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 It's funny the Steelers hire coaches until they get it right. We haven't even made it through the preseason of year one with the new regime and we are talking about possibly firing them after 4 seasons of 4-12 finishes. Ugh, I'm tired.

It's ok that you have to put your negative spin on things...and pick and chose what you take from the article. My take when I actually read the whole article is something a bit different. Previous regimes sucked, the Bills are rebuilding and this is what you have to do, and stay the course....but go ahead with your trolling, you won't last here long. Kelly the Dog Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 King also said that Bills veterans "loved" Sammy Watkins so put that issue to rest.
Dr. K Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 My simple position is that you don't make a team better by getting rid of players like Watkins and Darby. You make them better by keeping guys like that. I agree with King that the Bills need stability and for better or worse the Pegulas have to stick with the current GM and coach for a while. But they got themselves into this position by not trusting Whaley--for better or worse--to select the coach and control the roster. Hiring Rex was a disaster, and having a division of authority between him and Whaley was a prescription for trouble. Unlike so many others on this board, I think Whaley did a lot of things right and failed more because of lack of support from the owners than from mistakes he made (and he made several). That's water under the bridge. I hope that, having blown up the team, McDermott and Beane will be able to put a good team together with the resources they have. I am not convinced that they will but will give them the benefit of the doubt. But if Watkins goes on to have a Hall of Fame career, which I think it possible, I will not hesitate to say I told you so.
HeHateMe Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 Not sure how trading a never on the field WR, and a mediocre man CB is blowing up the team?
Royale with Cheese Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 Yes they need to, which is what they're expecting with Beane and McDermott.....long term fits. We weren't going anywhere with Rex. Don't worry about any negative press on the Bills....CanadianFan will find them before any of us. He's looking and searching for anything to be upset about.

Many in this forum cant handle the truth. I got buried when I suggested Watkins was injury prone. When he got traded almost every article I read outside of Buffalo brought up his injury history. Some just want to hear nice things about a team that hasnt made the playoffs in almost two decades.

akm0404 Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 Such a wrong and made up take that has caught fire around here because Bills fans need something to accept and justify the trade. Which part is wrong? The part where Sammy hasn't been available for much of his career with a host of injuries, including a nagging surgically repaired foot, or the part where he becomes a free agent at the end of the season and can literally sign with ANY of the other 31 NFL teams?

You can't keep everyone though... and we have no idea how his injury actually looks, or how contract negotiations would have gone. He may have been a camp hold out, or broken his foot again, or any number of other issues.

The part that is wrong is Sammy missed only ten games in three years, He's played in 80% of the games. How3 many games has Kyle Williams miss, or Eric Wood? Every one acts like he is made of glass. The man played with cracked ribs for crying out loud! Has anyone ever experience cracked ribs before? It hurts to breathe much less play football. All this talk is really disrespectful to Sammy. Why do we have to bash every player who leaves here?
BillsfanAZ Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 At some point the Bills need to commit to a HC/GM and let them work together to build "their" team. The Bills have talent so they wont be a 4 or 5 win team. Let Beane and McD draft the players they want to. If the Rams suck this season the Bills could have 3 picks in the top 35.
