Royale with Cheese Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 Me too. I also wonder how much of his good 4th quarter stats happen in garbage time. For reference here are his DVOA rankings: 2013 - 16th 2014 - 11th 2015 - 32nd (!!!) 2016 - 13th He's been disappointing. And if you think it's just a bad offensive line: http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stat-analysis/2017/quarterbacks-and-pressure-2016 he had just the 14th best DVOA when not facing pressure last year (when facing pressure he is 4th best). Luck threw 11 TD's last year in the 4th quarter when down by 7 or less. I agree finishing strongis important, however you gave me a binary choice and i went for the option that will win more games. I'd actually much rather have a QB that just plays well all game, and that is simply not Andrew Luck. You think you win more games in the 1st quarter than 4th? Luck has 76 career wins. 14 of them 4th quarter comebacks. Where are the other 62 wins coming from?
dave mcbride Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 (edited) And yet, in 2015, when Luck was injured, the team went 5-3 with 40-year old backup Matt Hasselback at the helm... From the REALLY broken record dept.: QBs don't win games, teams do (not saying that you're saying this here). Luck's last game before injury took him out: a 35-33 loss to TN. Hasselback's games: 16-13 win in OT against a 2-14 Jags team. A 27-20 win over Houston. (next 4 games with Luck starting: a 34-27 loss to AFC championship game loser NE; a 27-21 loss to NO, a 29-26 loss to 15-1 SB loser Carolina; and a 27-24 win over SB winner Denver) 24-21 win over ATL 25-12 win over TB 10-45 loss against Pitt 16-51 loss against Jax 10-16 loss against Houston, which started Brandon Weeden 18-12 win over Miami; Hasselback is 8-15 for 99 yards and 0 TDs Edited August 17, 2017 by dave mcbride

Please note I am not saying that Luck is a bad QB just simply not an elite QB. He is inconsistent and while he will win you games he will also put teams in a hole they need to dig themselves out of by throwing interceptions. Also where are you getting these numbers? He has only played in 70 games in his career and i think he's only won 43 of those....

Maybe Luck's not that good, maybe Hasselback was a great backup, or maybe the Colts as a team don't suck as hard as many here suggest. Or maybe a combination of these...
Alphadawg7 Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 Good post. The one thing I'd say about that division is while it's not good, outside of the Colts the teams in it are usually pretty stacked on D (Houston, TN, and Jax). Houston and Jax in particular was stacked last year. Their offenses have been horrible, however. The accuracy has improved every year, btw, and in his last 2 healthy seasons he has averaged 7.7 and 7.8 ypa. 2015 shouldn't be included here. Yeah I totally agree that division is much improved, thats why I said the division has gotten tougher. But when Luck came in, it was probably the weakest division and continued to be his first few years, which were also Lucks best 3 seasons. Personally, thats going to be a tough division this year and even with a healthy Luck I expect the Colts to finish 3rd ahead of only Jax. Tenn is going to be tough, real tough this year I think they will win the division. Mariota is the #1 Redzone QB in the NFL since entering the league and has zero turnovers in his career in the redzone...and they just added a good redzone playmaking WR in Decker. Combine that with more talent at WR, the best OL thats not that Cowboys, a good TE, and devastating duo at RB and Mariota is a guy I think will enter his name into MVP consideration this year. Not saying he's likely to win it, but I think if he stays healthy, his name will be one that gets brought up in MVP talk. Houston is a bit harder to predict, but given they got to 9 wins 2 years in a row with really bad QB play, I think Watson just needs to be decent for that team to hit 9 or 10 wins this year again, and yes, I do think Watson wins the job at some point this year, quite possible week 1. I see a 8-8 type season for the Colts, again even with a healthy Luck.
Saxum Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 All you need is a HEALTHY franchise QB, trade everyone else until you get one. It is a sure fire formula. Corrected.
aristocrat Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 Colts went hard at defensive picks. Defense should improve. Just depends on how well those additions play. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Talley56 Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 Jared Goff vs Scott Tolzien week 1. Can't wait.
GunnerBill Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 No, I'm suggesting that Luck is not that good and/or that the Colts are not "awful" without him, as many here have said. The Colts are a woeful team. They won games with Hasselbeck who was a former Superbowl QB not some bum off the street and against bad teams. If Luck doesn't play this year the Colts are a 3-13 team.
Watkins101 Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 Let's trade Wood and TT for their first and third. Is this good value?
4merper4mer Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 No idea I didn't watch all the Colts games he ever played in. Please note I am not saying that Luck is a bad QB just simply not an elite QB. It is NFL doctrine and applies even on message boards of unrelated teams. You must be brought to see the greatness of Kim Jung QB.
BillsFan17 Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 Strong Starter every time, you will win more games where you are ahead early than you will when you are behind early. Let the other team need the 4th Quarter Comeback. This is why you need a decent defense as well as a good QB, to hold the lead the QB gives you. The Saints have an elite HoF QB and can't make the playoffs because their defense is swiss cheese. I wonder if matt ryan would agree
YoloinOhio Posted August 28, 2017 Author Posted August 28, 2017 @zkeefer Chuck Pagano on the Andrew Luck situation today: "We're moving forward with the guys we have and the guys who are practicing." @corryjoel Saturday 9/2 with the cut to 53 is when the Colts must decide whether to move Andrew Luck from Active/PUP to Reserve/PUP.
Alphadawg7 Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 Like I said many times...worst contract in the NFL right now.
YoloinOhio Posted August 28, 2017 Author Posted August 28, 2017 @BradWellsNFL I now doubt Andrew Luck plays in the month of September. If he were healthy and expected to miss just a game, they'd be talking that up now. @allbrightNFL Reported last week on NFL Underground with @TJCarpenterShow that #Colts sources said they expected Luck out AT LEAST another month.
K D Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 trade them Tyrod. he's ready to go (assuming he gets out of concussion protocol)
26CornerBlitz Posted August 29, 2017 Posted August 29, 2017 Will the Colts be in the running for the #1 pick? @AdamSchefter Colts HC Chuck Pagano said CB Vontae Davis will miss multiple games with groin injury. Another Indy loss.
Royale with Cheese Posted August 29, 2017 Posted August 29, 2017 I hope Indy goes like 4-12 and has either the first or second pick....perfect trading partner for us because they have their QB and I would think Pagano would be gone. A new HC would want to acquire as many picks to build his team.
YoloinOhio Posted August 29, 2017 Author Posted August 29, 2017 (edited) Sammy just threw confetti for his week 1 matchup vs Colts backup CB. Edited August 29, 2017 by YoloinOhio
Royale with Cheese Posted August 29, 2017 Posted August 29, 2017 Sammy just threw confetti for his week 1 matchup vs Colts backup CB. I think the Colts best defense against Sammy is Jared Goff.
