26CornerBlitz
@theMMQB BREAKING: NFL approves full-time officials for the 2017 season, @AlbertBreer reports https://www.si.com/nfl/2017/08/09/full-time-officials-approved-2017-season The NFL is getting its wish—and full-time officiating positions are coming to football. The NFLRA approved a plan on Wednesday for the implementation of 21-24 full-time officials, three sources said. Under the plan, each of the seven field officiating positions will be represented, with no more than five coming from one position. The plan was jointly negotiated by the league and union, with the emphasis on improving the state of officiating across the board. An announcement is expected later on Wednesday. SoCal Deek
You mean they're going to watching the field FULL TIME throughout the game now, instead of only PART TIME like they've been in recent years.

klos63
So 1 maybe 2 full time officials per game? Is this really going to make a difference? I guess I never understood how a full time official would be much of an improvement.

26CornerBlitz
@AlbertBreer Per NFLRA exec dir Scott Green, the goal is to have at least some of the 21-24 full-time officials hired before the start of the season. Green told me the biggest hurdle for the NFLRA was making sure becoming full-time wasn't compulsory. Officials will still have a choice.
26CornerBlitz
@darrenrovell With the NFL going to some full time referees, the dream of being represented in court by Ed Hochuli is likely over.
