Ok, that is funny.

"It's for the children!" has always worked in the past. It may very well work this time too. I do feel sorry for young children separated from their parents for any reason short of abuse.  Be combining, meshing, and lying about the these children's situations, the press thinks they have a win. What they have once again failed to realize is that  "the other side" now fights back, and is pointing the lies with facts. I am wondering when (if) it will dawn on the press that they are hated as vile hacks? Doubling and tripling down on past lies hasn't worked, so let's do it again! and again! and again!

No, just lie harder.

That a lot of journalists did not recognize those pictures from the unaccompanied minors surge in 2014 and shared the story assuming it depicted a new practice under Trump seems like pretty clear evidence that they didn’t do their jobs during the Obama years.

Pundits and the media have conflated several stories about immigration — two of them years old — into a full-fledged freakout over the treatment of illegal immigrant children and during exactly whose administration those pictures of cages and the “prison bus” were taken.

In short, we’ve got an ACLU report on alleged incidents of child abuse, the photo of children in cages, and the photo of the “prison bus” (which reportedly was used for educational field trips). Thankfully, tweeter @AG_Conservative created a thread to sort things out a bit. Have a look:

Story 1: This story is based on an ACLU report that covers 2009-2014. It has nothing to do with the Trump admin or separating families as it mostly relates to unaccompanied minors at the border. However, the abuses were serious and systematic. Very possible many still occurring.

Story 2: This is being covered as a scandal, but I do not believe it is one. Essentially thousands of unaccompanied minors were processed and then released to family members or others in the US. When HHS tried to check on them later, ~1500/8000 didn't respond to the survey.

There are quite a few reasons why the adults taking care of them might ignore an HHS follow up. That doesn't meant they are lost or something bad happened. The only alternative to keep track of them would be for us to keep them detained, which pro-immigration advocates oppose.

Story 3: Many families crossing the border, including those seeking asylum, are now being separated as a deterrent. The reason for this is that the Trump admin has created a policy of referring EVERY illegal border crossing for federal prosecution (even asylum seekers).

Is it true that the Obama admin never separated families? No, Obama's admin did this too in some cases, but it happens way more often with the new policy. The Obama admin had several camps where they would detain families together while their cases were being processed.

Is this an effective deterrent? Evidence suggests that it has deterred some people, but that doesn't make it a good policy. There is a tough balance between deterrence and being humane, especially when kids are involved. Asylum seekers should be kept together imo.

To conclude: These are 3 very different stories. All of them are complex, but people who try to blend them all together or suggest they are unique to the Trump administration are either being dishonest or ignorant.

The media needs to do a better job explaining them.

More Evidence of Political Coverup in Dem IT Security Scandal
Judicial Watch ^ | MAY 29, 2018

More evidence has surfaced about the disturbing political coverup of grave national security violations committed by the Pakistani who ran House Democrats’ information technology. His name is Imran Awan and last year he was arrested on bank-fraud charges at Dulles International Airport in Washington D.C. while trying to flee to his native Pakistan. Even after getting fired by some members of Congress for stealing computers and data systems, Florida’s Debbie Wasserman Schultz, then Democratic National Committee (DNC) chair, kept him and let him have access to her emails and files as well as the password to the electronic device she used for DNC business. At one point, Awan had access to the computers of dozens of members of Congress, including those on the House Intelligence and Foreign Affairs committees. Judicial Watch has launched an investigation and is pursuing public records.

The government’s bizarre failure to prosecute Awan for the national security violations he appears to have committed points to a political coverup that’s dangerous, craven and borders on traitorous. A House Office of Inspector General investigation determined earlier this year that Awan and his relatives committed numerous violations of House security policies, including logging into the House Democratic Caucus server thousands of times without authorization. The same news agency that reported that story published alarming new revelations in the case this month, concluding that “Democrats appear to want to keep the case out of court” because “a trial could expose their reckless IT practices.” It turns out that, not only has Capitol Police failed to make any arrests, it inadvertently gave evidence to defense attorneys that was supposed to go to prosecutors. It gets better; prosecutors appear to be sharing information with someone on Capitol Hill who in turn is leaking it to Awan’s lawyer.

That Debbie character belongs in prison.

The way she attacked that police officer about handing over the evidence is all I need to know is to how guilty she is.

Correct. The scope of the Awan scandal is terrifying if you dig into it.

And people will be forced to dig into it soon. There's no running from what's coming.

Plus, she should be in jail because of how ugly she is. ?

The Obama administration secretly sought to give Iran access — albeit briefly — to the U.S. financial system by sidestepping sanctions kept in place after the 2015 nuclear deal, despite repeatedly telling Congress and the public it had no plans to do so.

Color me surprised.

The former Obama officials disputed that the momentary access to U.S. banks to convert funds through the dollar constituted "access to the U.S. financial system."

Kinda makes me wonder why it needed to be a secret permit, if it wasn't a violation of the sanctions...

This. But we should be VERY concerned about the rights of the press...I mean the state sanctioned propaganda apparatus.

Not surprising you come out against freedom of the press, given your penchant for having the Executive place them on a list for purging.

You're to be forgiven your naievete on the role of the press in this matter. You seem to think it's ok for them to act as the mouthpiece of a coup, to abet in covering up the truth.

I don't think that's ok. Not at all.

No naivety at all.  People guilty of actual crimes should be prosecuted.

That's not what you're advocating though.

The WaPo is well known for being a mouthpiece of the CIA. Certain elements of that organization at the highest levels have been feeding that paper outright lies throughout the process, and they've passed those lies willingly on to the public. And you're ok with that. You're on the record as saying there should be no punishment for that. That's cool. That's your opinion. I happen to have a different opinion on the matter. If they've willingly, and knowingly, passed on false information in the public to assist in the covering up of a crime, they're complicit in the crime.
