ALF Posted August 8, 2017 Posted August 8, 2017 (edited) Walmart is taking a direct shot at Amazon and making checkout lanes obsolete Walmart is rolling out a new technology in its stores that enables shoppers to scan and pay for their items without checkout lanes, registers, or cashiers. Here's how it works: shoppers download Walmart's "Scan & Go" app, then scan the barcodes of the items they wish to purchase. Once they are finished shopping, they click a button to pay for their goods and show their digital receipt to a store greeter on their way out the door. https://www.aol.com/article/finance/2017/08/07/walmart-is-taking-a-direct-shot-at-amazon-and-making-checkout-la/23069214/ what could possibly go wrong Edited August 8, 2017 by ALF
unbillievable Posted August 8, 2017 Posted August 8, 2017 So Walmart is having a %100 off sale to kick off the event?
Maury Ballstein Posted August 8, 2017 Posted August 8, 2017 All the hot moms in yoga pants will still be at target though.

frostbitmic Posted August 10, 2017 Posted August 10, 2017 For every cashier they no longer employ they now have to pay a security guard ... brilliant.
\GoBillsInDallas/ Posted August 10, 2017 Posted August 10, 2017 All the hot moms in yoga pants will still be at target though.
RaoulDuke79 Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 I wish they had the technology to keep bath towels our of the kitchen goods aisle and ferreal children on bikes from running amuck.
Buftex Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 I hope one day, Walmart rolls out their plan for a store without customers.
Marv's Neighbor Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 Gee, I'll miss those crapy plastic bags you get at checkout.
mead107 Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 Hate self checkouts. Cost jobs and I do not get a discount for doing it myself
boyst Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 All the hot moms in yoga pants will still be at target though.I was excited to get back to Ohio and all the moms in yoga pants. Jesus. Not at all. Ohio got gross. And several McDonald's I've stopped at. 2 to piss. One to eat all had automatic ordering. And kiosks at cedar point too
KermitMcDermott Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 (edited) They may eliminate checkout lines but then there's going to be a line for door greeters to check receipts. Edited August 12, 2017 by KermitMcDermott
Fan in San Diego Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 Hate self checkouts. Cost jobs and I do not get a discount for doing it myself But you usually get out of the store faster.
KermitMcDermott Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 But you usually get out of the store faster. Yup, self checkout machines don't hold up the line by asking customers how their kids are doing.
Buffalo Barbarian Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 All the hot moms in yoga pants will still be at target though. Why are they there?
RaoulDuke79 Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 Why are they there? So they don't have to be at Wal-Mart.
PromoTheRobot Posted August 13, 2017 Posted August 13, 2017 Weren't they working on RFID tags on everything? That way you can just push your cart through a scanner and, boom, you're done.
ExiledInIllinois Posted August 13, 2017 Posted August 13, 2017 (edited) Slow march to automation. Gotta trim labor in the service sector, etc... Forward thinking... Boomers are going to be kicking in the next 10,20 years in droves. We can't do business the way we did in the past... Automation to handle the population bounces. Unless, you want to bring in immigrants. How well is the labor shortage working for say Germany & Western Europe? @ least we are forward planning. Take the good w/the bad, embrace the new economy and change w/it... OR else you can change against your will. We aren't going back in time for 20 years then be caught off guard with a labor shortage in a crunch. Edited August 13, 2017 by ExiledInIllinois
/dev/null Posted August 13, 2017 Posted August 13, 2017 Weren't they working on RFID tags on everything? Including the shopper?
