Day care costs

Anyone use day care for their kids and what is the cost in your area? It's like a second mortgage. Just paid my last day care after 10 years/3 kids. Feel like I got a huge raise. I can see why some people feel like it's not even worth going back to work for one parent sometimes depending on their salary.

Have 1 kid in daycare...3 days a weeks....$168 per week. My kid enjoys the place and the interaction with other kids. I think the price starts getting more difficult to swallow when you have multiple children in daycare...at that point an au pair service may be worthwhile. It is what it is...

We have a 3 year old grandson in Nashville (4 in November). Three days a week was $214/wk and he's going to 5 days/week next month for $250. Not much more since we save on the babysitter some. She was $200/week for a couple days and extra duty including one night school stay over. That's $1,800/month, after tax dollars. I feel your pain, peiople!

Our son took a leave from a great paying job to finish his college degree in order to have more job options in the future. Guess who's flipping the bill for all this. :(

I had a bank employee years ago who had three kids, and it literally COST HER MONEY to come to work. She just wanted to be productive with adults.

haha - I can see that. It probably helped her career long term though.

No, she was a bank teller! And always would be... My son? He was making six figures and took leave to finish school for a variety of reasons. It WILL help him long term, but the temporary "pain" is much greater. Don't always do what's easy, keep an eye on the big picture. He's just lucky to have a safety net in us, but he knows and appreciates that.

But child care is ridiculously expensive!

yikes - she must have really liked that job! I know bank tellers make very low salary!

Ours was 1k/mo for infant and then eventually got to around 7-800/mo at age 3-4. Three at a time was incredibly difficult.

People liked working for me! :)

She was as sweet as could be, like my Golden Retriever, and about as smart. She once came up $2,000 short in her drawer and had a breakdown. I knew it wasn't her, she was there for the love of it. I had a very good idea who lifted it from her drawer (the sneaky b!tch), but couldn't warn a big client when she left to work there. Even if i knew for sure, you can't do that legally.

Soon grasshopper soon

Grasshopper very lucky that Mrs Augie is very good at what she does. I'll welcome you when you get to my place in life. :) I hope you do it better than I am currently.

Honestly, I need to get better at finding productive things to do. It's a legitimate challenge. She's in wealth management (I know you'll get this), and they work with and have done studies with people who have sold companies for hundreds of millions. They almost invariably regret selling their babies. It's the reason they got out of bed every day. Now what? How many rounds of golf can you play?

Oops, have I digressed?

I have two in daycare for four days a week. 1,800-2,200 a month depending on the number of weeks in the month. I had three in there for four months last year. Those were over 3,000 a month. I have really depleted my savings the last few years. I am a contractor and I am fortunate enough to make more money than my wife. She has a good job with a solid company and carries our benefits. Her employer allows her to take off for a sick child and work from home whenever she wants. Neither one of us can quit our jobs. She also uses her vacation time as daycare relief. Its a tough road

Both as a parent and as an employer with dozens of (mostly female) employees at any one time, I totally feel your pain!

If I were actually employing anyone here, I couldn't have thrown in the female part. :)

Got that beat! $300 a week for our soon to be 9 month old here in Cbus. Really love the place he's at though, couldn't be happier.

It's your child. You want the best. But you don't want to be wasteful, after all college starts tomorrow.
