RIP Tim Smith

He was the mastermind behind the Cardiacs. In my favorite record store back in Germany in the mid-1980s, they had 10 pairs of headphones hanging from the ceiling above the album racks, with sneak peaks of some new items. One day I had grabbed a pair of headphones with something, well, different - the Cardiacs. The following is arguable their most famous song (the video is from summer of 1990, not 2015 as stated in the title). Enjoy!

One of the greatest songwriters of all time that, sadly, far too few people have heard of. Townes is becoming quite popular among filmmakers and TV showrunners lately though

I was at one of his very last show American shows...was lucky enough to see him 6 times.  Definitely in the pantheon of greatest songwriters...

Hey BullBuchanon, did you ever see the movie "Blaze"?  It is about the life of Blaze Foley, a street poet who was murdered here in Austin, back in the late 80's.  He and Townes were great friends, sort of kindered spirits in many ways.  You might enjoy it you haven't seen it...Charlie Sexton plays Townes.

"I'm gonna start talking again, when I know what to say".  Always a favorite line...

I know of Blaze, though I haven't gotten too deep into his material. I do know this track, however.

I'm a big fan of Guy Clark/Townes and a bit of Steve Earl. I'm in Austin too.

Under normal circumstances, where do you go to catch Bills games?

I used to be a regular at Rattle Inn when the bills backers met there, but I stopped going when they shifted to Parlor and Yard Josh's rookie year.

Yes, I was there too, at the Rattle Inn.  I have been going to Parlor and Yard as well.  I would love to go to Nickel City for the games, but honestly, it is just too crowded there...but the owners are from WNY (actually Rochester I think) and it definitely a little more exciting.  I have gone there from time to time to watch Sabres games, or just to hang out...really good wings and other grub...I just wish it was bigger!  Oh well...if things ever return to normal, I'll buy you a beer if I run into you!

I mostly got burnt out from years of disappointing seasons where I felt it kinda took my whole Sunday to get down there and get home with all the traffic, especially after late Saturday nights. This past year was obviously a lot better, and I thought about heading down to see some of the games, but never pulled the trigger.

Once things settle down though, I might get back in the swing. I'm long overdue for some wings at Casino el Camino - also WNY ties.
