DrW Posted April 18, 2023 Posted April 18, 2023 (edited) Something (relatively) new from the best Austin has to offer musically - The Black Angels. The first song is from their 2006 album "Passover"; all the others are from the 2022 release "Wilderness of Mirrors". I had not been aware that the Mexicans had something similar to KEXP: Live studio performances in extremely high quality A/V - La Bestia TV Edited April 18, 2023 by DrW Quote
DrW Posted April 18, 2023 Posted April 18, 2023 Looking back to La Bestia TV's previous recordings, I found this gem. I had never heard of this band "A Place To Bury Strangers" before, but they certainly put on a show. Sandra Fedowitz is amazing on drums. Quote
BritBill Posted April 20, 2023 Posted April 20, 2023 This came on during my walk to work this morning. It was almost enough to make a man go to the pub and have a fun day instead, Quote
ExiledInIllinois Posted April 20, 2023 Posted April 20, 2023 I'd ram this one down Herr Ferguson's gullet in the name thread, but I am not sure "Lumina" could pass for a legitimate name! LoL... I think it could! @muppy 1 Quote
Pecos Bills Posted April 20, 2023 Posted April 20, 2023 That 9-to-5 office job getting you down? The Goose video for "Hungersite" is sure to lift your spirits! Quote
Another Fan Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 The most ahead of its time song ever? The Josh Britt thread made me think of it Quote
T&C Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 This is April of 1967... nice show actually, no standout musicians here for sure. Quote

DrW Posted April 24, 2023 Posted April 24, 2023 For the thread on "Song titles that include the name of a man or a woman", I had been looking for a live version of Country Joe's "Tricky Dicky" song about Richard Nixon, and I actually found one. Looking at the clip, I thought I had seen the girl on piano and back-up vocals before. And indeed, it is Dorothy Moskowitz, who had been the main vocalist of the band "The United States of America", who had made just one critically-acclaimed album in 1968, using very primitive electronic devices, but no guitars. It is still one of my favorite (if you are impatient, you might want to skip the first minute of the two following clips). Quote

I agree... it isn't a bad sound at all... but as far as this style goes I'll take the 1st 3 Caravan lp's all day long. The Canterbery scene or whatever it was known as. Saw your post on ELP and really... other than a few super nice radio songs, Karn Evil 9 is really their only standout to me. People tout on Tarkus but I really never got into it... just me. 1st 3 King Crimson lp's for me as well... after that it's pick and choose... although Discipline is pretty solid start to finish imo. 1 Quote
