While The Slits are my favorite female post-punk band, there is another one I like which garnered very little attention: The Mo-dettes.

The only song that I could find with a video:

IMHO, their best tune. Even if you have never heard of them, give it a try...

Sunday music

Start out with Nick Lowe - "Cruel To Be Kind" (Official Audio)

  • As part of the my wife's sisters challenge to me I was told to sing a song. I am not much of a singer but I sang from Man of La Mancha's "Impossible Dream" but "Cruel To Be Kind" could have been an alternate which is interesting since it is a song she thinks I made up.

Next is Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes - The Love I Lost

  • This was a song which inspired "Cruel To Be Kind"

Next as recommended by YouTube from my history - Chicago & Earth Wind and Fire - Live '04 at the Greek Theatre

  • A pair of bands which matched very well

Chicago & Earth Wind and Fire - Live '04 at the Greek Theatre

Tracks with minimal gap between each tune.. Meaning I cut out most of the applause and needless chat & NO waiting on the encore songs:)

this is by far the most elaborate drum kit I have ever seen

A few years back Bozzio joined Dweezil Zappa's touring band for at least one recorded show and brought his huge drum kit. Bozzio was side by side with Joe Travers who had a minimal drum kit - when they traded drum solos I enjoyed Travers more. Which isn't to suggest that Travers is 'better' than Bozzio - just an observation that surprised me.

I'll also take this opportunity to post (probably not for the first or even second time) my fave from the Zappa Plays Zappa tours.  Absolutely love the guitar jam/solo that starts around 4 minutes in.

one thing you know for sure when you see the name Zappa on anything recorded it WILL be tight musically.  I can understand the appeal. It just isnt my cuppa tea much any more.  Its too busy for me musically. Im  not much of a jazz fan for the same reason. Ive actually seen him live twice both shows I did enjoy but that was years ago. I saw Dale and Terry Bozzio with Missing Persons at a club in Phoenix around the same 80's time frame.

I love Roxy Music. While Bryan Ferry's voice and song-writing is unique, the other band members are no slouches either. My favorite tune: "A Song For Europe", with a long sax solo by Andy Mackay in the end of this live version. Enjoy.
