BillsFanNC
I have encountered many big Rush fans over the years at shows and elsewhere and I am always surprised to find out how many have never heard this Max Webster/Rush collaboration "Battlescar" from 1980. I guess we had better access in Buffalo by being able to tune into the Canadian rock stations.
DrW
I always liked songs incorporating circus music (sorry, I do not have video for any)... The classical example (as far as rock music is concerned), and one of the most innovative McCartney tunes... Brilliant, but much darker... The United States of America made only one album, but it is outstanding. No guitars, but very primitive synthesizers and "ring modulators". One of the most innovative bands of the late 1960s... Another short-lived band. The Flock combined a brass section (a la Chicago or Blood, Sweat and Tears) with a violin (Jerry Goodman).

Have had both of the last two a few times... just never connected with either. In the theme: What is the last time you ever saw a drummer reading sheet music? Me neither lol... Annie sounds great. 1
Another Fan
I'll admit I'm a fan of hers. Cant believe this song is 10 years old already.
DrW
Admittedly, the name of the band first piqued my interest. But despite the name there in nothing R-rated in their music and lyrics, just smart power pop. They are mostly Canadian, with two Americans mixed in (the drummer and the red-haired vocalist - Neko Case). 1

Great track, tho! On 5/22/2022 at 10:02 AM, SlimShady'sSpaceForce said: Fascinating track, and band. Alan Parsons didn't play that many instruments on this track, if memory serves, and the singer was from Pakistan (Karachi), which was rare for the time. (Some) people forget, also, that Alan Parsons was involved with production on a number of the Beatles' albums as well as with Pink Floyd. DrW
This morning our local paper announced a concert by a group that had been voted Best Band in Austin in 2017. Always on the lookout for something new I decided to check them out. This was absolutely not what I had expected - they blew me away. Here they are - Shinyribs... I lived there from 1980 - 1986 and saw him play a show at a concert venue when they lost power. Literally in the middle of the concert the place went dark. It takes seemingly forever for they to get the power back on. Then a spotlight comes on in the dark, pans to the stage and it's Bruce with a push broom just goofballing LOL...and even with the power delay, he played over a 4 hour show He stated at that concert how Phoenix was so supportive of he and the band how appreciative he was. And he played his ass off. THAT'S why he is THE BOSS. -My wife got my into Springsteen by taking me to his shows. You go to see him and you leave saying to yourself, "man - that was a great show - he was really on tonight - you could feel it - we jut saw something special". And then every time you see him, he does the same thing - the guy in playing a great show EVERY night. I didn't like or dislike Bruce before seeing him, but after seeing him live a bunch of times I'm a fan - what a performer.
