I heard it on a spotify playlist.  Didn't know it was a cover but I guess that's why they were pretending to read the lyrics.

I think this was a Dr. Demento discovery, a 40’s song reissue in ‘75 that was #30 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was a silly sing along drunk song for the older generation. It was on a lot of Legion Post juke boxes.
