Billsfansinceday1 Posted August 11, 2017 Posted August 11, 2017 He looks like a player who is just finding his game legs. I think he is going to be a good one. I recall Shaq being sluggish when he came back last year as well.
papazoid Posted August 11, 2017 Posted August 11, 2017 "cut" ??....NO WAY !! "traded" ??......very unlikely. just too much "value" for an average of $1.5 mil cap hit. he's essentially a rookie.....give it another full season.
MAJBobby Posted August 11, 2017 Posted August 11, 2017 So? It was his first game. I guarantee you he is on the roster this year. He has to be given a chance to develop as a top draft choice. Did i say anywhere he wouldnt be?
Coach Tuesday Posted August 11, 2017 Posted August 11, 2017 They may need to shut him down for "injury" reasons to protect his confidence. Not good.
thebandit27 Posted August 11, 2017 Posted August 11, 2017 They may need to shut him down for "injury" reasons to protect his confidence. Not good. It wasn't good, but I do agree that he started to look slightly more comfortable as the game progressed.
GunnerBill Posted August 11, 2017 Posted August 11, 2017 It wasn't good, but I do agree that he started to look slightly more comfortable as the game progressed. Went from being stand out the worst player on the field to just "bad".
ALF Posted August 11, 2017 Posted August 11, 2017 Ragland is still recovering from a serious injury , he will be a good MLB in time. Good thing we still have Preston
jrober38 Posted August 11, 2017 Posted August 11, 2017 Ragland isn't going to be on this team at the end of preseason. He simply doesn't fit the scheme and he offers nothing on special teams, making it extremely unlikely he sticks with this team. My guess is he'll be traded in the next week or so. I imagine they're working the phones pretty hard in the coming days with teams who run a 3-4 defense.

In fact, Rex thought he was the best player on the team.

Ragland is a two down, 3-4 ILB. We can probably trade him, but if we can't his lack of special teams value will seal his fate. Edited August 11, 2017 by jrober38
Bleeding Bills Blue Posted August 11, 2017 Posted August 11, 2017 They may need to shut him down for "injury" reasons to protect his confidence. Not good. Probably the worst thing you could do for him. He didn't practice for over a year... he's not going to get better sitting for another year. Then they'll cut him. Ragland never fit McDermott's D. Splitting that cap hit with next year - you'll have 1.5 million less to spend, and 3 free agents in Humber, Hodges, and Brown.

Splitting that cap hit with next year - you'll have 1.5 million less to spend, and 3 free agents in Humber, Hodges, and Brown. Who cares. Ragland is borderline useless for this defense because he can't execute the way we need our MLB to execute at that position. Keeping a guy who doesn't help us because it'll cost $1.5 mil is a really weak argument for why we should keep someone.
MAJBobby Posted August 11, 2017 Posted August 11, 2017 They are not cutting him. There is a depth issue. and for a 1.3M cap hit provides decent enough depth. Cut him and your on the hook for 2.5M in cap So you lose some depth and 1.2M by cutting him

He's on the third team for a reason, and he offers nothing on special teams. 3rd stringers who can't cover punts and kicks don't make NFL rosters...

Where he should be playing though is behind Lorax, then you can use his rush ability in the 4-3 over and under looks. He is very similar skill set to Lorax and will provide you some depth behind him. That is where the value is for him on this team
Jamie Muellers Ghost Posted August 11, 2017 Posted August 11, 2017 I will give him some credit he started off very slow but got better as time went by, caveat of course that it was against second and third string.

He doesn't have to dress on gamedays... but you are jumping the gun here. You don't know what you have in the guy yet to determine making a financially irresponsible decision. He will stay on. You don't keep backup linebackers who can't play special teams.
John from Riverside Posted August 11, 2017 Posted August 11, 2017 I am pretty confident that Ragland is gonna get it together He looks like he is in fantastic shape

Losing a few mil in cap space is hardly a financially irresponsible decision, especially if there are better players who you can keep ahead of him. Teams all across the NFL are going to cut players who cost them cap space in the coming weeks. That's life in the NFL.
