ExiledInIllinois
The Holiday Showcase restaurant in Cheektowaga was hit by a tornado. 30 years ago. Cheektowaga Tornado of 1987: All this weather is very cyclical. Big rains in 1997 too. Ummm ummm um! Gr8 graphics and 80s hottie Mary Macombs! ;-) LoL Never thought of Hamburg as tornado country. We have tornado sirens in the Midwest. But we aren't the real Midwest, so they only are as quiet as a Great Lakes foghorn. They have much better ones in Sioux City & Des Moines. The Holiday Showcase or at least whatever is there - also got hit by a tornado in 2007. I was on the Thruway shortly after, and it was all jammed up...........Weird that it was the same place getting hit in basically the only two tornadoes in 20 years. Wacka
No.The 2007 tornado landed across Walden from Target (near where Chick-Fil_A might go. It then crossed the Thruway, went behind Cabella's and rose off the ground. It touched down again in front of Adam's Como Lounge (across from yje Old Como Mall and did some damage off of Losson Road. The start of the track was at least a third of a mike ir so away. The Holiday Showcase is still in business.
CountDorkula
Just think that is an EF1 tornado that touched down and did that. Now you know why people call EF4-5 what they do.
shrader
My mom is up there for the first time since she moved away 3 years ago. Great timing on her part. She's in the Boston area, so practically ground zero.
Wacka
Update on the cleanup. The debris at the fairgrounds has been cleaned up. The gaming building is not damaged, but there was a lot of damage to the roof of the east grandstands at the track. Lots of trees down in the south part of Chestnut Ridge, The east side (with the casino building) was open on Friday, but the west side (where the Eternal Flame is) is still closed. Lots of trees down in Holland. There are lots of crews working on it. My brother works for the Erie County Highway Dept. and he worked 12 hours Thursday and Friday and will be working Saturday and Sunday. All the towns in the county are loaning chippers etc. to aid in the cleanup. The Feds said there has to be > 28 Mil in damage for FEMA $, but Cuomo has pledged state $. At least no major injuries, just a few cuts and scrapes.
plenzmd1
Hammer has some pictures on his Twiiter feed of his neighbors house , might have to be completely rebuilt. BTW, heard the NWS knew it hit in Hamburg and not OP cause we all know no touchdowns in Orchard Park.
Hammered a Lot
Hammer has some pictures on his Twiiter feed of his neighbors house , might have to be completely rebuilt. BTW, heard the NWS knew it hit in Hamburg and not OP cause we all know no touchdowns in Orchard Park. Not neighbors house. My friends house is 2-3 miles from my house. My friend, a older gentleman is not doing too good today. The stress is getting the best of him.

The stress is getting the best of him. Yeah...The stress. Neighbor's sump pump just burned up and they were just beginning to flood. Not bad, I helped them avoid real trouble late Friday night, early Saturday mourning. Threw a spare sump pump in the pit until he could get a new one Saturday morning. Older couple, needed the help. I am a firm supporter of pumps with piggy back electronic switches. It's the mechanical switch that always wears out and pump sucks dry. Get one of these and throw, disobnect the switch pump came with: https://www.sumppumpsdirect.com/HydroCheck-HC8000/p12356.html Hope your neighbor is doing okay. I am almost near a tornado ally type area. I am telling you, I never got used to the threat of severe weather. Over 25 years now. Strong thunderstorms abound, especially in summer. I sleep with one eye open. I See a "bow echo" on radar and my hair rises. We are due here. I think Plainfield, IL was 1990. I got a basement. They Chicago Heights was 1968. But Lake is high and everything is green! Again... Give them all the support you can.

A sump pump is so necessary. I have one of those floating switches now. The switch is inside the ball and when it rises trips the switch. So much better than those ones with the long handle and ball. Last so much longer. I was replacing those other ones every two years or so.
