Just Jack Posted July 13, 2017 Posted July 13, 2017 Just doesn't have the same ring to it. Anyways, if you're anywhere along the Erie Canal between Albany to Oswego.... http://www.newyorkupstate.com/news/2017/07/photos_replicas_of_christopher_columbus_nina_and_pinta_are_docked_in_albany_and.html I do like these two lines in the article.... The Niña, created entirely by hand from 1988-1991, is considered the most historically accurate replica ever constructed. ... Both the Pinta and the Niña are powered by diesel engines and steered with large wooden tillers.

ExiledInIllinois Posted July 13, 2017 Posted July 13, 2017 They came through our lock some years ago... I think I saw the Nina. Didn't take pics. If my memory serves me... One is too tall to make it South. The Lemont, Illinois highway bridge vertical controlling point is 19.1" above normal pool stage. They definately wouldn't make the Western Erie Canal Tonawanda-Syracuse... I think that is 15'. But, they do step down masts and strip low. Pretty cool... I wish I took pics.
Just Jack Posted July 13, 2017 Author Posted July 13, 2017 I'm going to try to see them when they come through here.
ExiledInIllinois Posted July 13, 2017 Posted July 13, 2017 (edited) I'm going to try to see them when they come through here.So cool, what floored me... Just imagine crossing an unknown ocean in a vessel this size. Kinda small. Our 1000'x110' lock chamber dwarfed them. C-Bus had a big sack of nuts! Edited July 13, 2017 by ExiledInIllinois
