boyst
You do understand it's based on worldwide averages, not just what it's doing in your backyard?a worldwide avetage of 80 years temps and 30 yes satellite on 100bazillion yr old planet .... math! Should we recycle and do all that stuff? Yes. But Elon musk and his electric car are as damaging to this country as a gasoline engine. All of this climate theory of ice shelves and all of that is CNN. CNN means garbage. So its garbage.

boyst
It's a shame that many people seem to only react to the "climate change" issue with one extreme or the other (i.e., either it caused everything or caused nothing). Using an isolated example of either extreme as evidence to support one's argument is pretty short-sighted. the politics sham that is climate change and its ability to redistribute wealth is astounding. Short sighted is those who believe the US should do 99% of the work and pay the world for what we pollute when china and Russia laugh at us The iceberg is the size of the state of Delaware. But there is no such thing as global warming, just an everyday occurrence...... Another link 60 years ago - there weren't even aerial pictures of Antarctica. So, this has never happened before? we were just talking about you and the old timers last night. Nice to see you here
Dante
So who bought advance tickets to "An Inconvenient Sequel," where the great manbearpig slayer tells us all about how the sensationalist garbage in his first movie was just ahead of its time or something? Had to sit through a preview of that a couple of weekends ago. Very timely. The opening shot is of Trump announced pulling out of the Paris environment rip off. B-Man
"A one trillion tonne iceberg... has calved away from the Larsen C Ice Shelf in Antarctica." "The calving occurred sometime between Monday 10th July and Wednesday 12th July 2017, when a 5,800 square km section of Larsen C finally broke away." The iceberg... was already floating before it calved away so has no immediate impact on sea level....Although the remaining ice shelf will continue naturally to regrow, Swansea researchers have previously shown that the new configuration is potentially less stable than it was prior to the rift...The iceberg is one of the largest recorded and its future progress is difficult to predict. It may remain in one piece but is more likely to break into fragments. Some of the ice may remain in the area for decades, while parts of the iceberg may drift north into warmer waters. Gotta love that "immediate". Does the idiot journalist think it will eventually have an effect on the sea level?
boyst
I guess those who dismissed "the earth is round" arguments due to the "infancy" of the science were right to be cautious also. explain how thay relates to acclimate change please? And show definitive proof that climate change is real. Scientific theory is theory. Scientific fact is fact. There was no dispute the earth is round once proof was established. There is no proof of climate change. A short span in a glimpse of time isn't enough for an intelligent mind. If I drive 87 mph on i85 the whole way to durm. Then I drive 90 for 30 seconds and 35 in the neighborhoods. Does that mean I've been speeding the whole way?

LeGOATski
It's definitely happened before. The Earth has been through global warming and ice ages before. It's the continuous cycle of the planet. Humans will be able to survive the next ice age because of technology, we think...
boyst
Climate change will be different for each region. It's actually mostly good for AZ because of the change to a wetter climate. Good and bad for southern Cali because the El Nino brings flooding, collapsing coastline.wait. Climste change. What is global warming? Where is Al gore? I feel so helpless! Mark80
Climate change is cyclical, no doubt. But to deny that we are impacting it / accelerating just doesn't make sense to me. Especially when the vast majority of the scientific community is in agreement on the issue. Who is not in agreement? Seems to me that it is basically the people of have a vested interest in denying it exist. Namely, the largest polluters and the politicians they support thru super PACs. LeGOATski
wait. Climste change. What is global warming? Where is Al gore? I feel so helpless! The Earth always gets warmer in the years prior to a significant drop into the next ice age. It is "global warming" and we do have an effect on it, but don't think we're going to stop it. PastaJoe
Donald Trump says he is “not a big believer in global warming.” He has called it “a total hoax,” “bull ****” and “pseudoscience.” But he is also trying to build a sea wall designed to protect one of his golf courses from “global warming and its effects.” The New York billionaire is applying for permission to erect a coastal protection works to prevent erosion at his seaside golf resort, Trump International Golf Links & Hotel Ireland, in County Clare. A permit application for the wall, filed by Trump International Golf Links Ireland and reviewed by POLITICO, explicitly cites global warming and its consequences — increased erosion due to rising sea levels and extreme weather this century — as a chief justification for building the structure. The zoning application raises further questions about how the billionaire developer would confront a risk he has publicly minimized but that has been identified as a defining challenge of this era by world leaders, global industry and the American military. His public disavowal of climate science at the same time he moves to secure his own holdings against the effects of climate change also illustrates the conflict between his political rhetoric and the realities of running a business with seaside assets in the 21st century. http://www.politico.com/story/2016/05/donald-trump-climate-change-golf-course-223436

Deranged Rhino
Perhaps it's not climate change that led to the ice shelf coming off... rather, it was the result of ongoing archaeological excavations occurring under the ice in Antarctica since at least 2001: http://exopolitics.org/discovery-of-flash-frozen-antarctica-civilization/ More: http://exopolitics.org/visit-to-antarctica-confirms-discovery-of-flash-frozen-alien-civilization/ http://www.news.com.au/technology/science/archaeology/shock-claims-massive-ancient-civilisation-lies-frozen-deep-beneath-the-antarctic-ice-and-could-even-be-atlantis/news-story/433fc633f7ae122ef8a525013ecba97b http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-4094706/Is-lost-city-Antarctica-Mysterious-dome-building-created-ancient-civilisation-bizarre-theory-claims.html Let's not forget about the Piri Reis map, a Turkish map from 1513 that accurately depicts Antarctica without ice: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piri_Reis_map Now, before you laugh this off, revisit the list of dignitaries that visited the frozen continent or sent expeditions: *1938: Nazi expeditions, sponsored by Hess (deputy Fuhrer) and Goering (founder of the Luftwaffe and gestapo). - This is a strange pairing since Hess and Goering hated each other. Hess was driven by his interest in the occult and esoteric so it makes sense he'd sponsor an expedition while Goering was not into any of that, he was a nuts and bolts practical man. For Goering to be involved this expedition had to be more than a humanities research visit. *1947: Admiral Richard Byrd took a battalion of Marines and a fleet of ships to Antarctica on OPERATION HIGHJUMP for what was supposed to be a months long voyage which Byrd scuttled after only a few weeks after suffering the loss of ships, planes, and men - reportedly to attacks made from craft that came out of the sea. - Interesting to note Byrd was taken to speak with some of the Nazis who went on the Antarctic voyage before he departed on his own to learn about the conditions they'd face (so there's a direct connection to the Nazi expeditions and Highjump). - Byrd traveled with press, and gave one interview on the way back to the states to a paper in Chile wherein he made comments that the US needs to prepare for attacks coming from over the poles. - Immediately upon his return, Byrd was censored and Highjump was classified. It's speculated he gave his interview to a Chilean newspaper on the way back to assure that some of the story made it to the public without breaking his secrecy oaths. ... So something of interest was/is going on down there. Enough to draw out the technological and esoteric leaders of the Nazi party, enough for the US to commit an armada and 4,000 Marines less than 24 months after the end of the war... but those are just the beginning of the odd visitors of late to the frozen continent. Consider who has visited since 2012: * Juan Carlos of Spain * Prince Henry * John Kerry (on election day of 2016 - supposedly to study climate change... the US's head diplomat...) * Patriarch Kirill III (head of the Russian Orthodox church) - went immediately after meeting with the Pope in Havana. * Buzz Aldrin (who said he was "going to the launchpad" and then fell sick while in Antarctica and had to be hospitalized.) Why all these people? Goering and Hess had no interest in climate change. It's also doubtful Kirill, Aldrin, Byrd, or Juan Carlos went there for climate change reasons... Kerry might have, but as SecState he could pick up the phone and get all the reports on climate change with analysis on his desk at Foggy Bottom within an hour, he wouldn't need to go personally... on election day of all days during the most contentious election in recent history. So why these people? Could they have found something there? Something of major significance to world history, maybe of human origins, perhaps an ancient civilization, or maybe it was something of a technological nature - even an advanced one, or since Kerry was there perhaps it was something that required a diplomat "take me to your leader" kind of thing... The problem here, of course, is this all starts with the Nazis - who made it their mission to not just study the occult and esoteric - but to seek it out and acquire relics. From the list of visitors and excursions - it seems like they may have actually found something. It's probably not this... but it's far more entertaining to consider.
