Mark Vader Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 The month of June gave us "Wonder Woman"...and that's all we've heard about, which is understandable, as that movie has dominated the summer, while other franchises released this summer have had extremely disappointing results, except in international markets where studios will gladly take that as a silver lining. Now the month of July arrives with what could very well be the best that summer has to offer this year. Two franchises have claimed the early part of the month to themselves, with no other studios daring to open anything else against them in their respective weeks. Add in that both movies are receiving very high positive reviews, and audiences could respond in a big way. Receiving a second reboot, although technically it happened in "Captain America: Civil War", the webslinger returns, as Sony, Disney & Marvel present, "Spider-Man: Homecoming". Several months after the events of Captain America: Civil War, Peter Parker, with the help of his mentor Tony Stark, tries to balance his life as an ordinary high school student in Queens, New York City while fighting crime as his superhero alter ego Spider-Man as a new threat, the Vulture, emerges. Starring Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Robert Downey Jr., Marisa Tomei, Gwyneth Paltrow & Jon Favreau. 20th Century Fox concludes it's Apes reboot trilogy with, "War for the Planet of the Apes". After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. Starring Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson, Steve Zahn, Karin Konoval & Amiah Miller. Warner Bros. and director Christopher Nolan present, "Dunkirk". Allied soldiers from Belgium, the British Empire, Canada, and France are surrounded by the German army and evacuated during a fierce battle in World War II. Starring Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Kenneth Branagh & Mark Rylance. This movie will be presented in 70MM in 125 theaters across the country. Reportedly the largest 70MM release in 25 years. Charlize Theron stars in, "Atomic Blonde". An undercover MI6 agent is sent to Berlin during the Cold War to investigate the murder of a fellow agent and recover a missing list of double agents. Also starring James McAvoy, Sofia Boutella, Bill Skarsgard, Toby Jones & John Goodman. Director Luc Besson brings us, "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets". A dark force threatens Alpha, a vast metropolis and home to species from a thousand planets. Special operatives Valerian and Laureline must race to identify the marauding menace and safeguard not just Alpha, but the future of the universe. Starring Dane DeHaan, Cara Delevingne, Elizabeth Debicki, John Goodman, Clive Owen, Ethan Hawke & Rutger Hauer. Sony presents, "The Emoji Movie". Gene, a multi-expressional emoji, sets out on a journey to become a normal emoji. Starring the voices of T.J. Miller, Anna Faris, Sofia Vergara & Patrick Stewart. Finally in "Girls Trip", When four lifelong friends travel to New Orleans for the annual Essence Festival, sisterhoods are rekindled, wild sides are rediscovered, and there's enough dancing, drinking, brawling, and romancing to make the Big Easy blush. Starring Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith & Tiffany Haddish. KermitMcDermott Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 (edited) None of these look good. Planet Of The Apes will probably be Redbox material. And enough Spider-Man movies already. Edited July 6, 2017 by KermitMcDermott
SlimShady'sSpaceForce Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 Apes & Atomic Blonde. Seen enough Spider Man and I watch enough History Channel wrt Dunkirk.
KermitMcDermott Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 There's a Child's Play reboot coming soon. They really needed to remake this crappy movie? A doll that kills people? Its a god **** doll, just kick it out of the way.
DC Tom Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 Last movie we saw - whatever it was - had the trailer for Dunkirk. After it was done, my wife asked me how many mistakes I saw. Five. In the trailer. I really need to get a life.

Buftex Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 As a big Planet of the Apes fanatic, but not a big fan of "franchise" flicks, I have to say, the Planet of the Apes re-boot have been a very pleasant surprise. Really looking forward to the new Apes flick. The original movies (especially the first 3) are amongst my all-time favorites...the new re-boot movies have done a great job of respecting the originals, but adding something new to them. Now, if eventually, they start having the apes wear cool uniforms, like the did in the originals, I will be really happy!
shrader Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 Spiderman's a no brainer for anyone who has been following all the Marvel stuff. I'll probably see Dunkirk in theaters because I've liked pretty much everything Nolan has done. For some strange reason, the wife wanted to see the first of this Apes series back when we started dating, so we may actually go to this one if she's interested.

I don't think I have ever watched any of the Apes series, Woody looked pretty bad ass on the commercial. This might be a redbox event for us.

Pine Barrens Mafia Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 Why would i see a movie about one of the most ignominious military defeats ever? Answer: I wouldn't. Hollywood's putting out some real garbage this year.
Marv's Neighbor Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 Don't go to movies. I pretty much rely on GoBillsINDallas for his list of "wouldya's." That's Entertainment!
Roundybout Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 The Emoji Movie is a testament to how far we have devolved as a race.

Looking forward to this next installment in the series.
Azalin Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 I love this series reboot. "Rise" & "Dawn" were outstanding. Looking forward to this next installment in the series. Oh, come on. Honestly, is there anybody in any of the reboots that can overact like Charlton Heston? No? Then they pale in comparison. Observe: Or even Krieger for that matter:
