Smith was one of 18 Pro Football Hall of Famers who were guests of New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft on a recent eight-day goodwill trip to Israel.

Jim Brown, Joe Montana, “Mean” Joe Greene, Willie Lanier, Roger Staubach and others, including Smith’s wife, Carmen, gathered in Boston two weeks ago, where they boarded a Boeing 747 chartered by Kraft.

Smith has visited more than a dozen foreign countries. But Israel, he said, was the trip of a lifetime.

“To walk where Jesus walked, to see where all of the miracles happened, it had such an impact on me and everyone in our party,” he said. “It was a life-changing experience. You could truly feel the presence of God there.”
