I am looking forward to the day when this isnt a story. I feel like we are getting closer to that point. It seems like LGBTQ relations have improved while race relations have taken a big step back. The day when we can look at people without first thinking, "gay," "black", "Muslim", etc... will be the sign of real progess.

In my life, I associate with a lot of people in each of those groups. Some of my best friends are black, gay and/or both in a couple of cases. Candidly, I used to think about that when interacting with them, even in the back of my head. It took a little time to be able to hang out and never once even remember that "____ is gay."

This guy gets it. Well stated.

Does watching two hot chicks making out affect you at all?

don't pretend it doesn't

Why people have to turn a story like this into hate talk and insults. And we wonder why ..... oh never mind

 Haaaaa. -I just wanted to know how someone who actively incorporates these elements into his life deals with situations some of us find awkward.

FTR, when I see two hetero's make out in public, my immediate response is 'GET A ROOM!' -Two dudes would prompt a similar, but more visceral reaction...

Who's fault is it really that young men suffer this type of alienation? -Should he have been trying to "hide" in football? -Or, is the moral of the story "just come out, be who you are, and maybe bypass football?"

To be honest? -it depends on what they look like.... Also, if I just see them on the street, or if was invited to watch, (which I have been, hehe)... Honestly, 85% of the time I am grossed-out by it.

Yah.. Never mind because no one here is doing that... The mods would be all over that type of thing.

Honestly, it doesn't bother me at all. It was a little uncomfortable when I was in college because I wasn't exposed to a lot of gay people prior. My school was (and still is) an EXTREMELY liberal and gay friendly place so it was a little adjustment. After a little while though you don't think twice. It has no impact on me one way or another. I see... When I was a child you heard stories of gay men being attacked ALL THE TIME.. Often due to PDA... Glad those days are (mostly) GONE...

At the very least, it's an instant warning point... I often poke fun at some of the local cabana-boys, but anti-gay slurs do not fly here.

Very well said. Race. sexual orientation, religion, national origin, gender, even physical or mental handicaps can all be fodder for individuals energized by hatred.

I do think that is the crux of the issue. Many people who have no idea, could have no idea because they don't fall outside the "norm" feel that they know. They also feel like they can/should push their agenda on others even when they have no clue what they are talking about. Glad the guy is still alive.

Agree with all of this C. Biscuit.

Just out of curiosity you are about my age (36) aren't you? I think that age places a role in all of this. I'm more progressive than my parents, who are more progressive than their parents and I hope that my kids are more progressive than me when it comes to stuff like this.

Yup, I'm 36 but if you were a female, I'm 28 haha. My mom is ultra progressive and I grew up in North Buffalo, which was about as progressive as Buffalo could be when I was growing up. I also went to both public and private schools, so I experienced a ton of diversity. Lack of first knowledge of people is what creates a lot of the world's problems.

I think I was lucky because I never had to live with the idea of being gay. I think dudes are disgusting and women are amazing. So I can't imagine the struggle of being a gay football player. I've known a lot of Incognitos during my football days. They aren't the most accepting people on the planet.

Personally, I don't want to see anyone making out though girls kissing is ok.

What I've noticed is that people who are in happy relationships with a person they find attractive don't care about what other people are doing. George Clooney, Leo DiCaprio, or Derek Jeter are fine with gay people. You know who cares the most? The fat guy who has an unattractive wife or can't get laid. :)

I played soccer with a guy who went through very much the same and attmepted a drug overdose (thankfully his sister found him and he was got to hospital in time and survived).

He came out after that and almost immediately the demons were gone. He was an angry, aggressive character that gave way to a funny, charming, laid back man.

Until you have seen the affect that wrestling to keep your true self hidden 24 hours a day has on a person you have no idea the mental torment that can cause.

My thoughts and best wishes are with Ryan O'Callaghan and I pay tribute to the people at Kansas City who saved that young man's life. I've seen with my own eyes how close a friend came.

Good on the kid for deciding to deal with a very difficult situation head on. Takes guts.

As for the rest, I've never understood people's fascination with the sexual habits of others. Who cares.

You never understood porn?

Because I got the point pretty early.

this isn't a story now. plain and simple

this is only a story because it annoys folks like me and others who don't give a tiny little itty bitty piece of turd. and because we don't sjw's believe we must be raysis or sexist or something hashtagged.

let this dude live his life. he's a moron, plain and simple. this is about mental health. not about being gay, no matter what he thinks - he has clearly shown to be a retard.

yes, but that's ok right?

please, cite references that this is still an ongoing issue. these sources would serve you best as being in the last 24 months.

until than, thank you and sorry not sorry

There's a lot of love in this thread. And its not just C.Biscuit's self-love. Its a genuine love and respect between men who may not always be comfortable with what other men do with their genitals and their butts, but are still capable of seeing past our differences and loving their fellow consenting man in accordance with state laws, and that's really special. I'm really proud of all, most of you.

You've made great strides since the Michael Sam thread and the Troy Aikman thread. One day, I think main board may even be ready for a Johnny Weir thread. I can't help but think that steady doses of pixyland.org has contributed to this change.

what about the several billions of people who don't care about those issues or the agendas by those who disguise agendas in news like this which ignores the actual point of this story = mental illness.

depression is not a disease of sexuality, race, ethnicity or any means. correlations may be attributed more toward some groups or another - and i'm sure someone will quickly say how homosexuals are likely to be more depressed because society blablabla. well, proof? depression is the issue. running this off as a gay issue is a disservice to gay rights and mental health and a mockery of journalism.

I'm sorry this is total rubbish. Imagine having to be someone else 24 hours a day for over 20 years of your life. If you don't understand that is the root cause of the depression and mental health issue I don't know what to tell you.

You are just wrong.

...never happens in our lifetime bud.....never understood the big publicity about orientation anyway....not on my driver's license, passport, library card or tax return.....and why "come out" if it doesn't matter and is essentially a private choice?....race relations are a conundrum.....when we talk about playing "the race card", immediate assumption is black versus white.....try this one.....a headhunter called my office from Georgia looking for CFO candidates (I'm in Roch-Cha-Cha)......so when he heard my last name ended in a vowel (HINT), he said "so you're one of them there EYE-Talians"...nuff said....racism does NOT stop at color.............
