26CornerBlitz Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 @AdamSchefter Saints placed Nick Fairley on reserve/non-football-injury with his heart condition, per source, a sign he's not playing this year. Updated: With Saints DT Nick Fairley being placed on reserve/non-football injury, he's now out for 2017. Officially. NFL time could be over.
Gugny Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 Wow. Sad. But good for the team doctors for potentially saving his life!
cba fan Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 Feel bad for the guy. He puts up a career yr with Saints, gets a career/life changing contract and poof, this health crap. Bills were rumoreed to want to draft this guy.
Billsfansinceday1 Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 Very sad news. Nothing but best wishes, Nick.
aristocrat Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 Wonder if his deal was insured for this? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Chandler#81 Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 Wow. Sad. But good for the team doctors for potentially saving his life! Thing is, everyone knew about this condition when he was drafted. It didn't stop the Lions from taking him high in the Draft. Saints knew about it as well when they signed him last year and just gave him a new contract. I wonder if something has happened that isn't being reported.
eball Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 Probably a blessing in disguise. Hopefully he has been smart with his money and can lead a long life.
Buffalo Bills Detective Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 "If he's medically cleared a year from now, let Kyle walk and sign Fairley. In hindsight, Nix should have taken Fairley 3rd overall back in 2011 instead of Lazy Dareus."- Typical TBD fan response.

Big Turk Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 (edited) Wonder what it is and if it's fixable with medication and/or surgery... doctor's opinion that there is a good chance it is treatable...said Fairley's condition was known at the combine. Said teams are very cautious to avoid a Len Bias sudden death type situation and set the bar very low on what is an acceptable EKG result, which they get every year. Says he doesn't know the exact condition but guesses it's one of two...either an arrhythmia or myopathy(enlarged heart). https://www.google.com/amp/www.sandiegouniontribune.com/sports/columnists/kevin-acee/sd-sp-pfd-nick-fairley-heart-20170604-story,amp.html Edited June 27, 2017 by matter2003
BADOLBILZ Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 Does the NFL give these guys genetic tests yet? The day can't be far off when stock is moving around on draft day because of a spit sample and there is very little privacy in the NFL hiring process so you know it's coming. They can get away with it because 99%+ of these guys can't make money playing any other sport.

C.Biscuit97 Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 That sucks. He was a beast in college and finally was living up to his hype. I think NO is broke but it would make sense for them to kick the tires on Sheldon Richardson.

Saint Doug Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 I don't see this as bad news. This is great news. Bad news would've been him experiencing a sudden cardiac death on the field.

26CornerBlitz Posted June 27, 2017 Author Posted June 27, 2017 @jkatzenstein The Saints informed Nick Fairley, through his agent, of the NFI decision today, per source. Couldn't take extra risk with his heart issue. @ProFootballDoc David J. Chao, MD Retweeted Josh Katzenstein Indicates the team made the final call with conflicting medical opinions.

That was a lawsuit waiting to happen if something went wrong and the team cleared him to play.
